Do Maggies Fans Remember.....

A player that used to be in the Magpies called Geoff Dillon? Just interested in what you guys thought of him as a player back in the day??
 
Dillon played 16 games as a **very ordinary** back-rower for the Maggies between 85 & 86 (9 in 85 & 7 in 86) with an extremely poor Western Suburbs team!!!

He played just one game against Balmain in 85 and came out a loser (he did kick a goal in the 16-10 loss though - his only goal in his career)!!

Why the question??
 
I work with his wife and she showed his footy card from back in the day. I had no memory of him and was wondering if any of the Maggies die hards could enlighten me.

Isnt it funny how some people are just so negative about some former football players?? Is it jealousy perhaps?? i find it fascinating that someone who is probably an overweight, smoking die hard wests/wests/tigers fan can be so negative about a former player who also loved the club he played for, no matter how badly they lost. He was one of 'the magnificent seven' in 1985 and of every single newspaper clipping ive seen (and ive seen quite a lot), he got a wrap… and a 'positive' wrap at that. He may not have played very long or in your professional opinion perhaps he was 'very ordinary' but at least he made a first grade football team? did you by any chance?
I dont think theres any need for your negative... almost nasty comments as a fan of wests.
oh and ps... He must know a little of what he's talking about because his kids both play rep footy and the eldest plays holden cup.. has trialed for NSW cup and first grade... so rasberries to you buddy!!!!!!! :stuck_out_tongue: :unamused:
 
Yes, I remember ….. Was he a Benedict College Auburn boy ?
I think he played in the team that did so well in the Panasonic Cup that year .... Falling one game short of the Cup Final. Yes, he was a goer .... Something like Johnny Morris .... Nothing flash but gave it his all :wink:

Totally understand your point of view Mrs Dillon and of course you are correct in everything you say above…..but in Redemptions defence, he was asked for his opinion **_as a (first grade) player._** He expressed his opinion of him as a first grade footballer and that seems valid. If he was asked his opinion of him as a bloke he may have said "Jeez he was fit, skilful, determined and a good trainer, he even played first grade for Wests!"

Good on you for sticking up for hubby, although with the original OP and then you popping in here, this looks a little like a set up. Not sure what the intent must have been?

Yes, im sure everyone here is jealous of a guy who played 20 games 30 yrs ago.

For some reason that sentence reminds of all the times Al Bundy would reminisce about his high school football days when he scored 4 TD's in one game, before life took a turn and he married the red haired monster.
 
I remember him,watched him at Lidcombe a few times,he was about the standard of the rest of the team at the time.
 
He came to Wests from Canterbury. Was a good reserve grader, probably didn't really fulfil his potential. I played social cricket with his dad Bruce for Tooheys.

I'm trying to work out what got his wife so angry. As Glennb pointed out, no one attacked the guy as a person, just gave their opinion of him as a player. Fancy having the nerve to give your opinion of a players ability on a footy forum, whats this world coming to.
