Do you enjoy Rugby League?

I don't have Foxtel, so I only get to see games on Nine. The commentators they choose to employ are awful. Ray Warren should have retired last century. Gould makes an opinion early in the game and then constantly points out everything that helps him prove he is right (even if he is wrong). He seems obsessed with pointing out all the flaws in the game, which gives a very negative image to the sport. Fittler and Johns are just clowns. Hadley is a horrible human being. And Gilbert is the most boring commentator in the history of the sport.

I think that if the ARLC gave the rights to Seven or Ten, it would give the game a bit of freshness that it sorely needs.

I love league but I don't enjoy it as much as once did 2 refs 2 linesman 2 video refs and they make more wrong calls than ever .refs do to much coaching shut your traps and play whats in front of you. my biggest grip is the wrestle its killing the game . I also think there are to many business people in the administration side of the game they don't understand rugby league. old grumble bum has said to much

Good post. I thought i hated ch 9 Sunday games last year because they were replayes. Im hating them even more this year, after watching a game called by Smith or Voss it really shows the difference in class.

I was watching the last 10 minutes of the Sharks - Warriors game 2 weeks ago. Kata scores in the 73rd minute, and you think the Warriors are home.

Then an AMAZING , barnstorming run by Fifita and he breaks about 5 tackles to score with only a couple of minutes to go. I was really impressed, the best props try I'd seen this year.

Then Warriors attempt short kickoff and it doesn't come off. At the end of their set, Hoffman charges the ball down. Off the next play, Johnson dances around the field, through the defenive line from 30 out and scores in the dying seconds.

I don't care about either team and I jumped up from my chair and screamed in awe. Just an amazing few minutes. Very little in life makes you feel that way (especially when you don't really care about the result).

I love rugby league because it provides me with those moments consistently. Sure, the game has plenty that can be fixed and I disagree with alot of the rules interpretations, but at it's heart the game is just as good as ever

Good on you Squaddy ….. I thought I was the only one who still loves the game. I watch as many games as I can on foxtel .... The game is so much more even than it used to be. When I first started following the game clubs like Norths, Newtown and Penrith were never any good ....always on the end of big score lines. Games were decided by scrum penalties and the five metre rule made the game a real bore ..... And before my time the game used to have unlimited tackles !!! Sure the biff may not be what it was but I'll take today's game over yester-year any day.

Instead of having a video ref, why not let the on field refs make the call by looking at the big screen, or go watch a monitor on the sideline NFL style

I could just picture them pulling out the binoculars at Leichardt and still struggling with the sun beaming down on the screen

I like it.

Defo think there is a lot going on behind the scenes.
You could've guaranteed SOUTHS were going to win last year.
It was so forced.

~Conspiracy theory~ or not….
There is defo some BS behind the scenes.

worth a shot, as well as the Captains/Coaches Call on reviewing decisions…..however, given that the video refs still manage to stuff things up somehow, I wouldn't be convinced on whether it would work.

Count me in, I watched that one too. When the kids are in bed and the wife is busy, I love the chance to be able to sit down with a whisky and watch a game that does not involve the Tigers. Less stressful! Doesn't happen every week, but even sweeter when I get the chance!

Best thing now is you can get immediate access to games and replays with the NRL app, so even if I miss a game kickoff I can turn on the replay whenever I want.

Speaking of the video ref, I really enjoyed how they did it during the 2013 world cup, where the video ref actually talked through the process live on TV. Gave a lot more transparency to the process.

watching the Eels v Bunnies…........

so, far on every 5th set, just about the whole team of either side is standing offside.......easy to see as the camera is set to a wide shot for the kick. I'd imagine it's happening in most of the other sets as well.

you could probably say the same about the dragons in 2010, they pushed hard for that to happen after their premiership drought. referees boss at the time? ex-dragon.

i love a good conspiracy.

One thing I've always loved about the tigers was the attractive football.

We didn't win most of the time but we were enjoyable to watch.

Now we're just another 13 guys in slightly different colors to another 13 guys doing almost exactly the same thing.

Repeat x number of games each week.

Haven't watched a single game this year, probably won't watch any. More enjoyable ways to spend 2 hours on a weekend.

I'm off to the Rugby tonight to watch a couple of lower grade Weststigers run around with quite a few very talented rugby players - it's always enjoyable at the rugby! Most ppl on here have got exactly what they asked for. Congratulations. Give me the The Tim Sheens entertainers any day. Go Weststigers!

The game as a whole is boring and a chore to watch.

yep i agree and it hasnt just come since we are losing
i thought it started to go downhill since 2007/2008 maybe even before that
i used to watch every game on foxtel now im lucky to catch our game

and who the hell has a 7 tackle rule with the lack of good halfbacks in today nrl and why the hell do u take away the shoulder charge :crazy

More of a gradual decline over the last 7 years, from watching every game, plus a few Super League to watching highlight packages if the NRL/Telstra website actually loads. Wouldn't know where to start with the games issues, too many already mentioned. Seems more of a hybrid of the game I use to watch but anyway. Hope kids enjoy it half as much as I use to, thats if the NRL can get the new generation away from their game systems, Netflix and a dozen other forms of entertainment they are poorly competing with. I have my doubts.

I did that in season 2014 and enjoyed one of the most productive and happiest winters in my adult life. Unfortunately I came back this year to find the game even more dull and my side even more pathetic….oh well.

I think the game has gone to poo and only watch it because of the love for the Tigers.

The over complicated rules, tragic refereeing and blatant bias towards teams who are expected to win has me hating the game.

No doubt I'll turn up next week to watch. ..but I'm honestly not sure how much longer I can put up with the NRL.

I have already started to try and convince my kids to play something else and I think that is very significant.

Yep pretty much what you have said is true and it isn't really good for the future of the game.

I am a diehard WT supporter and believe me when I say die hard It means I love this club to tatters but its getting to the point where I am fed up.

Last week I was forced to miss the game and tbh I didn't give a crap, usually I would be spewing to miss a state cup game.

Both the terrible refereeing and how crap our club has become play a role in my lack of interest in the NRL.

The things that irk me about the modern game are the pathetic things they call scrums, the strip rules which seem to change depending on who is playing (just take it back to what it used to be - you lose the ball - bad luck, poor ball security. Your hand touches the ball even in the motion of tackling and it goes forward - bad luck, knock-on), the twenty metre drop out after the attacking side misses a penalty goal which used to be a ten metre scrum attacking sides feed, the two refs yet they make twice as many mistakes as one ref, the BS video ref (the video BS is for me what makes the modern game as boring as bat faeces), the play-the-ball area with markers and those playing the ball all over each other - it used to a penalty and while I'm at it the uncontested play-the-balls, I could go on forever but I'll leave it with this - the entire game was a contest to get the ball but now it has become a dumbed down snooze-a-thon so channel nine can chuck in as many ads as possible.
