As for purpose. Family, pretty simple. There isn't much more really.

Not sure purpose is really the question, its more about how you see yourself. are you defined by your job, or your values? that's the key, and also why senior execs struggle massively when they retire, they have no definition of themselves, they get value from the job they did. they dont have a best friend at home, disassociated from the kids - they are alone.

If the WT became a dominant force like the Panthers are now then that would certainly give some of us a happy feeling,

But another thing to consider is, what would then happen to the many discussions and threads on the WTF?

I suspect the same could happen to the WTF as that of the Panthers forum, ie. Listening to the sounds of the chirping crickets.

And then sometimes when they are so bored you hear the Panthers diehard fans talk about the weather and their dreamt travelling adventures.

But i'm sure we can discuss much more things than that.

I don't see it this way. My FIL has a lot of money and it sucks. Two of his kids are completely useless and can't stand on their on two feet.

The best thing I'm doing for my kids is telling them once they are 18 they need to figure it out for themselves. My daughter is 20 and has worked a lot more and is much more independent than my 40 yo SIL. My BIL was married and I'm 100% convinced his ex-wife married him just to get at the family money. That dude earns good money and spends all of it and still needs regular handouts.

Does anyone like Epicurus ? He was the best. A simple frugal life with some ganja on the side and you are good to go. Too much money just leads to problems. I've already told my wife to give most of her inheritance away.

The more you earn the more responsibility you have. A simple frugal life is all I want too. Earn enough to be comfortable and not worry about money and I'll be content. Live self sustainably and enjoy the simple things in life.

Everyone is genetically different and are raised by varying influences, therefore we have different values and outlooks.
In Pj's case I think it's admirable that he is totally focussed on providing for his family.
I'm sure he has his family's best interest at heart.
Your take is to have your children learn how to stand on their own two feet.... also admirable.
Raising a good family is the very essence of society.
Someone once said,
"No success compensates for failure in the home"
The main thing I believe in raising children [I have 4 with ever increasing grandkids 🌝] is to,
Firstly set a good example all the time, not just sometimes as your kids are like a sponge. Secondly give your children good options to take when they face adversity and let them make decisions.
Thirdly always be available to talk to them about their lives....not to judge but listen and give them some alternatives to the decisions that they have made as they will make mistakes.
A successful parent in my opinion is when a child likes to occasionally come home or phone to talk about their lives and ask for your opinion instead of asking the wrong person.
You should know your child well enough to give them advice or simply just be there for them.
If a child knows their dad or mum loves them always and are always there for them, then their life will have depth, substance and a place of belonging irrespective of their age.
I knew my mom loved me so much, right up to her passing.
Dad was a hard task master and distanced himself from the kids and on occasions was heavy handed through alcohol abuse.
He was traumatized from being a POW in WW2 but he did have a good heart under the rough exterior.
He found it very difficult to show affection and emotion.
Things improved for all of us over the years to follow.
He told me for the first time in my life, [that I could remember] that he loved me about a month before he died.
That was real closure for me because my body was being put back together like lego from an accident.
I needed to know that dad loved me because I was in a very very dark place.
My life changed for the better that day as I knew he loved me.
The greatest gift you can give anyone is love and your time.
I've seen too many indigenous children who have no role models or love and their lives seem fruitless.
It's one of the worst things that happens in society,
that is life without love.
