I have no problem with this particular article or any former Balmain or Wests players commenting at all. However, I do take issue when the writer of an article, about our team, insinuates that the former Balmain club and the current Wests Tigers club are one and the same! And this is something that has been happening a lot lately in news stories quoting some of the Balmain greats.

A lot of people see WT as the successor club for BOTH Balmain and Wests. We can't claim the history and at the same time pretend the pre-2000 era didn't happen. Personally rather than see 180+ years of history come to an end I think WT has a role in providing a continuation of that.

Does it mean we live in the past? Of course not and over time we are forging a new identity as the Wests Tigers. But personally I think it's good that ex-Balmain players regard the WT as their club and I think it's good that Wests Magpies feel it is their club. I've seen Noel Kelly say some very nice things to that affect on a few occasions. Some may think it is divisive but I more see it as a natural progression.

Now all we really need to do is get some more old Magpies apart from Noel talking up the Wests history.

Yes, this is much needed because, at present, I think you'll find that most people see WT as the successor club of Balmain only, thanks mainly to the media. I'm happy for the WT to be seen as a continuation of the history of two great clubs, as long as it remains balanced.

This is a huge test of our defence - and I'm sure that is how Sheensy will approach it!

I'll back us to beat them by rushing & wrapping to prevent their spate of offloads!

Galloway will be given Kasiano to shut down - while Woodsy will keep playing his natural quality game - but will take a particular liking to knocking down Tollman and Graham when he can!

You stick Liam & Gareth back into our 13 (or 17) and we automatically make a 15-20% improvement on our team's defensive effectiveness!!
