Doubts about latest signings

Adam Blair and Matt Scott are 31\. Luke Lewis is 33 and Paul Gallen is 35\. Jeremy Smith was 36 when he retired. Age isn't too important when it comes to forwards. As for Josh Reynolds, I'll admit 4 years seemed too much to me but, he can play other positions later in his career if needed.

Tigers haven't paid overs for either and are both in prime age for footballers. We will get the absolute peak years out of matualino and Reynolds. Good buys.

Do you have any idea what we ended up paying for them?

475k for matualino and 720k Reynolds. Though I've been told Reynolds final year is 760k. Must be a retirement bonus. Haha.

Mate i've got 600k's first year. Moves to 720k third year and 760k last year though.

I think they are great signings for proven players in their peak years. Yes they are getting towards the end of their playing years but our biggest issue has been playing ridiculous overs to unproven players based on potential and expecting loyalty when they hit their peak, which has backfired as I always feared.

I haven't been this excited about the club since 2011

Its a really interesting time for us all as we have never experienced this before.

Losing most of our squad and rebuilding by purchase with a minor mix of juniors.

I dunno, this sort of thing happened for the squad 2004 after Sheens got his hands on the recruitment in his first year (2003) - Elford, Hodgo, Payten, Prince, Richards. All of these guys had some clouds about their past but all arguably produced some of if not all of their best NRL football with us. They were key signings in weak positions.

Sheens had some speculators as well - Moodie, Nick Graham. But overall he got some quality footballers in and let some of the lower quality ones go.

Main difference is we added these guys to our emerging junior priorities like Benji and Farah, rather than now where we are losing some of our top and more experienced juniors.

But we had some key old heads in the side back then, especially in the pack, which for Tigers the last few seasons has been lacking. If you look at the Tigers pack now, Lawrence has 202 games, Tim Grant has 172, the next closest is Woods with 132, ET has 128\. The rest are all 100 games or much less.

Great signings. Cant wait for the quitters to come crawling back to the forum.

Who are quitters?
I told Happy Tiger to have a leave of absence because he was too emotional abiut tge Tedesco family. I don't, for one moment, think that he has joined the Roosters forum.

Are there others who have definitely left?

Very impressed with Grahams interview on NRL 360.

Now of the opinion that if we could get him for $5-600k with the Dogs picking up the balance he would be good value for the club. Help the Dogs cap problems too.

Matulino is a great buy. Awarded best player for the Warriors 2 out of 3 years he has been stale and looking for an out for several years. Nearly went to the Panthers prior.

He will be rejuvenated under Cleary for whom he played his best footy.

Reynolds I think will play his best footy at the WTs. His is a running game which is suited to our style of play, Brooks will do the organising.

Just need a FB, Connor will do me if the management can sort it out.

We are starting to assemble a really good team !.

Thanks SG….your figures, if correct, make me happy we didn't pay way over the top for these 2..Do you think we are a good chance to get Packer?...and what about TMM and Miline?

I haven't all the posts here so forgive me if I repeat what others have said, but the Reynolds signing is more about his attitude and 'culture' than it is about his football. If our young guys are going to be the sort of players we want them to be then they need to play with guys like Reynolds who are prepared to run through brick walls if necessary. He's not the greatest footballer, but his attitude is that of a winner.

A few have said they wont follow the Tigers now that we have signed Reynolds. I dont know if they intend to quit the forum too but assume that is the case.

I love Happy so I would always welcome back, even with the emotion.

When he was talking about how much of a loss Reynolds would be I was thinking.. Come with him!

Wow Matualino's contract was massively overstated then!

Dragons wont have much to throw at packer if they sign dugan, I think they were hoping to get Widdop cheaper but we drove the price up.

A tactic? Some clubs are known to go into negotiations to drive up one price, to nab another player.

**Brooks/Reynolds combination wont work so considering both have recently signed, one is a poor signing?**

I like the Matulino signing, but would like to point out that he was signed to work with Aaron Woods. So if Aaron moves on, we need to look at other options to ensure the vision Cleary had is still achieved. Is that Felise or do we need to go to market again?

Everyone seems excited about this kid from Penrith… Being so young its hard to judge if he is a good signing [if true], but he looks big enough to play anywhere in the back 5\. Whats his best long term position?

So many ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

**Can you enlighten me as to why Brooks/Reynolds wont work**…to me they compliment each other well...

The Penrith kid is 25 so not young in terms of a footy player...little FG experience granted ...centre/wing long term..

As for the recruitment so far it's a 1000 times more encouraging than previously seen...More than Solid First Graders ...they are Experienced Rugby League Players with Rep level pedigree...they would get a start in all Clubs 17 ..not the usual cast off's that other Clubs reject that make Wests Tigers the best...

I already have ya dope… Alzheimer kicking in old mate?

Oh..Really…well I'm not the one repeating myself...

Matualino has not been a starting forward for a while. Why?
Reynolds can be coached better than Des style.

Both have the potential to be great players for us and I hope our conditioning team are still in place to keep them on the field.

We need the big buys to play most of the season.
