St George Illawarra players concede a fired up Wests Tigers outfit could stop their bid to win a club record nine consecutive NRL matches.
>
Currently on a winning streak that stretches back to their shock loss to Cronulla in round two, the Dragons could break the mark set in 2005 with victory over the Tigers at WIN Jubilee Oval on Sunday.
>
But hooker Nathan Fien and prop Dan Hunt are well aware that the Tigers, who were savaged by coach Tim Sheens on the weekend despite defeating Penrith, will be ready to bounce back.

>
Sheens claimed after the 20-18 win that the Dragons would "lap us by 100", but Fien believed that would only serve to motivate the underperforming Tigers.
>
"I think they'll be pumped," Fien said on Monday.
>
"It's getting to that stage of the season now where I guess you can sort of see the light at the end of the tunnel and you want to be trying to put performances together, and try to get on a bit of a roll going into the back end of the year."
>
The Tigers will also be looking to make amends for last year's dramatic preliminary final, won by the Dragons en route to their maiden premiership as a joint-venture club.
>
"What happened last year in the prelim final, I'm not sure how they'll be feeling but I know from our point of view it was definitely one of the toughest matches I've ever played in and if it's anything like that it's going to be very intense," Fien added.
>
"It was definitely intense, the most intense game that I've been a part of for as long as I can remember and definitely see-sawing, it could've gone either way."
>
Fien is hopeful of making his return from a troublesome hamstring injury that has ruled him out of their past two matches.
>
"It is improving every day and we'll just see how it pulls up throughout the week with the workload we put it through," he said.
>
"I'm very confident that I'll be out there on Sunday.
>
"…I guess the bye's come at a really good time (to get the hamstring right)."
>
Hunt said talk of the club's record-breaking streak was being kept to a minimum in-house, as is the protocol of Wayne Bennett-coached sides.
>
"Someone (mentioned the record) the other day, we try not to (listen to) stuff like that because you put pressure on yourself," he said.
>
"There's always a good tussle between the Dragons and the Tigers, so we're looking forward to the game on the weekend and it's definitely going to be tough.
>
"They've got some good players, Bryce Gibbs and Keith Galloway and guys like that, they're going to be coming at us full pelt."

The record streak capped with a record score?

Fire up Tigers.

Guess who beat them to end their 8 match winning streak in 2005?

Major Semi Final: Wests Tigers 12 (2-2-0) 20 (4-2-0)
S.F.S. Crowd: 41260 24-Sep-2005

Can't see the Tigers halting the Dragons winning streak. That's not me talking gloom and doom, that's just reality based on how both sides are currently performing. The Tigers will need the entire team to play well and Farah, Marshall and Lui to have blinders if the Tigers are to be any chance.

I remember this game fondly. In fact i think my dad has a dent in his roof from me jumping around at fulltime lol

LET'S JUST IMAGINE WE DO BEAT THEM THOUGH, i can't even describe how great that would be. I know we in a diff. place to where we were in 2010 semi BUT that wasn't an easy game for Dragons & if we hadn't copped those 5 penalties?????!!!!!! Anyway if a team can rattle them enough it's TIGERS. I'll be there, on the edge of my seat no doubt. They should really start giving out Valium with every WESTS TIGERS ticket.

Is this thread a joke?

Without Savage Aggression, determination, passion, die for your mates attitude, we wont get anywhere near them. We have more talented players, but our coach is unable to prepare us mentally for games this year.

If we can find the 2010 defence we might be a chance ,but it would be a major upset if we beat them .We just aren't disciplined or patient enough in attack to beat them at this stage . But I will repeat what I said in another thread would rather beat them in the first week of October .
Maybe if Sheens has some ideas he would like to try against Saints to see how they respond its worth a try .
To put the shoe on the other foot in 1984 in Brisbane rugby League Wynnum beats Souths by a record score in the grand final ,Souths were coached by Wayne Bennett . The next season Bennett used every game that season as a stepping stone to beating Wynnum in the grand final that season . He stated this himself . Sure enough Souths beat Wynnum the next year in a huge boilover 10-8 . If we are as good as we say we are we should be building that same way to getting our shot against Dragons in semis or GF

You would hope we can play better than the last two weeks. I think it might be similar to last years regular season result where we were close after 60 or so minutes but they kicked away late. But stranger things have happened and they will have a lot of players backing up from origin.

I suppose the one consolation is this time we really are not expected to win, which is often when we produce some of our best footy. Backwards as we are.

The pressure will be on them to win, here's hoping that we can put in an 80 minute performance…...at least

The greatest night at the footy ever, for me. Even surpassed being at the GF when the Tiges beat the Cowboys. Will never forget it.

When are St George ever gonna lose a game!

If it's not this weekend, it will never be. We are one of the few teams who can actually worry them, but not with the way we are currently playing.

All comes down to completion rate, if we get 55% of the ball and back it up with a smart kicking game we will trouble the drags if we play like last week than the score could be anything.

We are more than capable but very hard to go from the cellar to the penthouse in one week. I expect a big improvement but cant see us getting the bacon

LOL @ Bugs av

It's clear Bug and Sheens don't see eye to eye :roll

Why Who's shorter I'm betting that Sheens will be shorter than Bug

You've got me there Happy might be best to see whether Bug responds to your question although I'd be surprised if Bug has ever wanted to get that close to Sheens.
