NSW State of Origin legend Ben Elias has sparked the fuse ahead of game one on Wednesday, telling the Maroons to expect a Blues side that will "make those floods back in Queensland ... look like an absolute mimic".
>
Speaking to Fox Sports News at the inaugural 'Blue tie' dinner at Darling Harbour, Elias sledged the Queenslanders, calling them "cocky" and "confident" before declaring this is "the turning point" for New South Wales after five series losses.
>
"I was in Queensland last week and I don’t know why we’ll even turn up," Elias said sarcastically.
>
"Up there, they’ve won five series in a row; they’ve got Mal (Meninga) as a super coach; (Darren) Lockyer’s finale. They’re just going to go through the motions.
>
"I don’t even know why we are even going to put our boots on and go there and take them on.

"They are going to make these floods back in Queensland ... look like an absolute mimic when it comes to us coming up there because we’re going to create a massive storm. Go the Blues."

"This is the turning point. It has to be. Ricky Stuart (is) at the helm, (it’s) very, very professional," Elias told Fox Sports News.
>
"For the first time for a long, long time I can say honestly the young kids are going to do something special."
>
Elias also implored New South Wales fans to step up and turn up in their droves.
>
"It will, without a doubt it has to. When I walk in and I see Terry Randall and Graham Eadie, they were my heroes growing up ... it has to have an effect.
>
"In Queensland, they sold out two games in record time; we have yet to sell out ours for stadium for game two, support on and off the field has to come from all around New South Wales. I plead to them, let’s get behind the boys."
