Dropped Lolohea faces fullback challenge

In my opinion it's the wrong move by Cleary.
No matter what Lolohea says no player likes getting dumped to reggies.

Isn't that kind of the point though? He's not supposed to like "being dumped" and he's supposed to react by performing better and more consistently.

If he can't / doesn't, then he's really not the type of player the Tigers want. That's the point of having this new depth. Our roster might be lacking in superstars, but they are expected to play consistently near their best, with consequences if they do not. And if they lose their bundle playing reggies (adversity), then they are probably also going to lose their bundle on the field during key moments.

Tigers have for 2 decades had too many players whose best and worst games are too far apart in performance and too close together in frequency. Melbourne Storm aren't the best team in the comp because they have all the best players in the best positions. They are the best team because the difference between their worst and best games is very small.

So personally I think Tui's best games are well above anything Corey Thompson can produce. But if Corey plays near his best every week and Tui doesn't, then he's the fullback I want. And the minute one of them gets injured, we already know we have a capable replacement, rather than swapping out Tedesco for Sean Meaney in previous seasons.

At no point does Ivan or Tui state that he has to work on a certain part of his game….
That would be giving away secrets....They both say he has to work on "things" and that's
why I lean towards fitness as the reason for his demotion....It also allows the coaching
staff to have a good look at Corey in the fullback roll.... :sign:

You are 💯 correct on your assessment 👍🏼

He has been dropped from a trial for crying out loud…. if a coach ever wanted to send a message to a player WITHOUT really impacting the result of a game....a trial is the perfect time to do it......

Unless Thompson has an absolute blinder Saturday night, Lolhea will be the fullback for round 1, and he will have 3 weeks to work on the things he needs to improve on i.e. fitness!.

Am I missing something? I just can't see how a lack of fitness can be addressed by dropping Tui to play in reserves. Sure, he'll most likely get 80 minutes in reserves but the coach could also have given him the same time in firsts, playing at a greater intensity which would benefit his fitness even more. No, I think it's something other than fitness.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention Ivan…. :sign:

Fitness is definitely one of the aspects he needs to work on.

Fitness might need a top up.

I think it is more defence chat from the back he need practice in.
A little slower game may help him get it together.

Our coaching staff, both Clearly and Hodgo were FB's.

They would know a hell of a lot more about positional play etc that us punters would not even notice.

I think we just need to back their judgement..

Interesting to read Minichello commenting on Teddy, " He can take his game to the next level, and I think he has the right coaching to do that."
Ivan should use this to fire up for rd 1.

People say he needs to work on his defence talk - did the Cowboys score a single point while he was on the field last week ? They had one run away try before halftime but I think Lolo was off by then and the other 2 were before he came back on I thought - mayby the last one but we were down to 12

Not sure causation equates to correlation in this case..just because no points were scored or not doesn't mean Lolohea doesn't have 'things to work on' according to the Coaching Staff…

That's the other reason Russ. The quicker he gets up to speed in that aspect, the quicker we'll see him in FG.

Exactly. Unless its a smokescreen, its a poor management manoeuvre.

That makes no sense. You do not hone top flight skills against sub standard competition. You do so succeeding against the best.

Spot on I need to let it go though.

Correct me if I am wrong but I noticed tui packing into scrums when the cowboys had the ball, seems like that could go wrong
