Would be a great pickup, but sadly we're more likely to re-sign Shane Walker.

Lol… I wouldn't mind, as long as we sign his brothers too. Just in case JT doesn't work out.

I think the "re-sign" is referring to Shane Walker the old Prop from Balmain.

Thanks TW  I got my Walker's confused.

This bloke can play 1-6 and with the exception of Teddy, is better than anyone we have!

Whilst this is true, we'd have to be seriously long odds on the tote to pick him up Watto.

Whilst I think that is probably true Willow, I cant help asking why that is?? How on Earth can Wests have salary cap issues with the roster we have??

X2 - our roster compared to the top 8 teams from this year beggars belief that we have salary cap issues, obviously as we all know it is down to back ended contracts and the mis-management of the cap but it is going to be a long 2016 season!!

That's the one.

Walker is star!
If he goes to manly, they move straight to the "suspiciously strong squad " pile alongside the roosters.
If Souths bring back Sam and don't cut someone notable, they will be suspiciously strong.

We don't buy good players of rep standard.

Or sorry we do once in a blue moon.

this thread should closed.

Every player we have signed is basically a reserve grader, and at very best is a back up first grader and on the other hand we let a kiwi international walk out the door, and people think we might actually be interested in a proven quality player…..as they said in the Castle "Your Dreaming"

what about Dylan walker. he is an explosive center and will be a good asset for us if we can snare him. :righton:

He'll be moved on. Already on a last warning for bad behaviour so they probably see it as a matter of time, and would rather another club pay his contract in full than pay part of it offloading him later.

But no, we don't have a spare 500k under the cap. Not sure how many clubs do at this stage. Apparently Gold Coast, Canberra and the Sharks always have an extra half a mil whenever a player comes on the market.

But this was all said in the thread from 2 days ago. Search is your friend swag…

If the club is deadset on building for the future walker fits the bill.

1\. Centre is probably our weakest position. Imagine a long term centre pairing of Simona and Walker. Would be in the top 4 defensive and attacking centre pairs in the comp easy.

2\. There is no way our cap could still be terrible. We have let go Richards, Moltzen, Taupau, Galloway, Lodge, Lulia, Blair, plus others. You would be talking at a conservative guess $1.5 million worth of cap has been released.

3\. We have replaced the released players with fringe first grade players and U20s players. None of these players would be on more then minimum first grade contracts if not second teir/NSW cup contracts so it would not effect the top 25 salary cap. The only exception would be Ballin but by all report's Manly are paying the vast majority of his contract and we are paying nothing really.

4\. Souths have today confirmed walker is free to negotiate. They would pay half his contract. It is reported he is on $500k. We could potentially get an Australian centre for $250k and fix a position we have struggled in for so long.

I just wish the club would get serious and sign some proven player's. Yes there is nothing wrong with signing potential but potential is just that. Unproven!

That freed up space would have been used to flatten out the backended contracts for future years of Robbie, Chris, Ted etc. so it's very hard to look at it in isolation like that. It's not a 1 year thing.

The question would be for Taylor & the ceo would be… is walker worth us sacrificing some of the forward cap preparation for a buying spree and run at the title. Because if we get him on board, we might have to rebackload some of the contracts and we start creating the same mess all over again.

It would be a big call if they have to undo some of the hard work that's been done.

Not sure he'd fit the culture we're trying to create. A bit of a trouble making moron off the pitch, bit of a ticking time bomb. Why do you think Souths are happy enough to let him go? Of course he's excellent on the field, but off it - not so much…

I'd still take a punt on him if we somehow had a spare 250k or so, which i highly doubt we do! The kids would have been on back ended deals too so with all your youngsters moving up a pay scale, and front loading other contracts, i think if we had the money we'd have spent it by now.

There'll also be at least a dozen clubs after him, why on earth would he choose to come here over almost every other club in the comp??
