Easter Update

Chee Kam was right up there with the best performers across all indicators - he certainly matched Lovett and left him for dead in sprints and one on one defence.

I've never really knocked Lovett and I think he has copped it a little unfairly but the last couple of weeks have made me think Lovett simply doesn't have the ability to be a good NRL forward.

I also think Chee-Kam should be given a backrow spot over Lovett.

@Tiger Torch said:
I won't bore you with a player by player classification but suffice to say the majority of the forwards should be 'primary', but that is certainly not the case with us.

This doesn't surprise me. I don't believe all this talk about defensive structures. I'm sure we've had defensive structures for years as does every other club. I reckon it often comes down to individual players making the right decisions in attack and defence.

@Tiger Torch said:
That said while he continues to have the support of the team and administration not all the support staff are on board. My personal view which means very little remains unchanged in that I don't think he is the right man for the job.

Interesting.

Brooks and Moses are 90% certain to stay

The only question to me is will Brooks become a more consistent player. He was really poor last week and I don't think he is worth what we are paying him unless the level he plays at is consistently high.

Josh Addo- Carr is proving to be every bit as good as I observed during pre-season training. He should be in the team now but as he's not in the top 25 he may have to wait his time. But he won't wait beyond this year because as I indicated in New Year's report when I said Seve would leave for Gold Coast or Brisbane, Addo- Carr has now received offers from Gold Coast and Melbourne! Bellamy dragged Koro out of NSW Cup and would love top do the same for a cheap $120k!

We should pick players like JAC in first grade. I hope the same thing that happened to Koro doesn't happen to JAC.

Lastly - TT that was a great couple of posts. Thanks for the information.

Kade Snowden would be a better and more realistic option to look into than Klemmer. He's on the outer with Brown atm. In saying that though, we need an established, seasoned back rower, borderline marquee. We just don't have the punch, all we have is Lawrence and Sue. Aloiai could turn out to be something but he's still only a pup.

Keep on posting TT, it is a riveting read; us supporters thank you.

And if you are actually making it up, I doff my hat to your beautifully consistent work of fiction.

With the extra money that will be around next year, I would have thought that it would cost more than that to retain Tedesco , if his present form continues through this year.
Could be wrong, but I would think that he'll be one of the most sought after players in the NRL .
Thanks for the update TT.

I can confirm we have tabled an offer to Klemmer - actually this offer was made in February & included $150k TPA. Total package $750k which for the time being will operate as our maximum contract per player : Woods; Teddy; Moses; Brooks. $600k + TPA. All with annual reviews which by 3rd year could translate to $750k +$150k tpa.
Klemmer wants min 3 years ( ideally 4) & would sign for us for $900k 1st year - which rightfully we won't / can't pay.
Will probably remain at dogs for $600k + $200 TPA. = $800k.
Provided Farah moves on in 2017 to ESL or off field role we should be smooth sailing with cap, but have drawn a line in the sand re maximum $ contracts and contract terms ( 3years).
We are prepared to pay Farah up to $450k to move on next year. I cannot fault his professional attitude at training and have no evidence of him undermining Taylor in anyway. As previously stated he works a lot with Craig Sandercock and genuinely appears to have accepted his new role.
Chris Lawrence is simply an outstanding clubman and is very close to finalizing a restructured deal with the club, though Tim Sheens is now chasing hard from the UK -in simple terms we can't lose either way. Lawrence; Sue; Joel Edwards & Tyler Cassel are the best one on one defenders in the club. Lawrence has found a long overdue home in the second row and is a standout amongst the entire squad in terms of really loving the club and its supporters.
Harry has indicated he won't go over $1million in TPAs p.a. and would only ever consider buying 100% of club. As of Monday he now appears to have lost all interest in buying the club, but stands ready to assist with TPAs - he appears to take advice from Pascoe, Dawn Fraser, Aaron Woods and Robbie Farah, plus 1 Board member and 2 other commercial sponsors. He really likes Dawn but unfortunately Dawn doesn't really have a handle on football talent, though she is a staunch supporter of the club. Its no coincidence that Dawn's loyalties lie with the Balmain side of the joint venture and as such she can be relied upon to support those local juniors! Whilst Wests are virtually carrying the club officially, approximately 70% of all commercial sponsorship is linked back to Balmain connections within the club both current and historical.
Please don't misconstrue any of this as being an untenable relationship, on the contrary this 'tension' may prove to be a positive in terms of forcing quantifiable results. Mark O'Neils appointment illustrates how much clout the Balmain side of the joint venture still has - he is really close with Dawn Fraser. The retention or otherwise of the head coach will be a decision primarily for the Wests side of the joint venture - Taylor is seen as nominally a Wests appointment, Potter was a Balmain choice, Wests will likely be the principal shareholder by June when a decision on the coach will be made. At this stage Taylor is right in proclaiming he has 100% support at Board level, and whilst things remain in flux and this may change, it is likely he will survive unless the team falls well below 50% wins. A top 8 finish guarantees his job for a further 12 months and whilst Balmain reps have met with Cleary twice he now has a snowflakes chance of being appointed as their formal involvement in the joint venture is a best tenuous. Cleary at one point was in line for O'Neils job which would have been a Trojan horse ploy to get him into the club, but he showed himself to be a man of honour when asked by a Board member whether he was prepared to sign a declaration that he would not coach for at least 3 years - he would not sign this waver. It sounds messy I know but believe me when I say the team is now solely focused on playing and that Pascoe is doing an outstanding job as CEO. In summary there is a demarcation - players play and the admin team run the show with a highly tuned GPS.
I WOULD BE COMPLETELY GOBSMACKED IF WE DON'T MAKE THE GRAND FINAL IN 2017, THIS YEAR AS PREVIOUSLY STATED TOP 8 IF WE PICK OUR BEST AVAILABLE 17 EVERY WEEK!
As for SOO Daley has told the club only Woods, Farah & Teddy are under any serious consideration.

Can you tell us how Manaia's contract negotiations are going? I hope he signs again with us. He's a talent.

Final word I have no factual / creditable info on signings for 2017, just rumours, none of which are particularly exciting though I'm not completely up on the rumored signings of 1-2 ESL players. As far as I'm aware we have only factually tabled the Klemmer offer and are not actively looking elsewhere at this stage. Primary focus is Brooks & Moses along with upgrades for Teddy & Woods - all at same $750k level with tpas'.
Final resolution of the Farah saga also remains a priority. Despite media talk there is no creditable info regarding back up signings for Brooks & Moses should they leave as its thought we have at least one of them covered with Rankin or Taylor's preferred option Littlejohn (currently practising goal kicking 2 hrs per week). I've been told that 100% we won't lose both, and as previously stated are 90% likely to retain both, though Moses is now #1\. As previously stated Brooks had a poor off season and really only got going in mid January.
There are wraps similar to those the club had on Woods & Fifita for our young gun props Felise & Tatola along with Baily Sironen in the 2nd row, along with Obed Kharwin's inevitable transition from wing to centre, to 2nd row.
Part of me wishes I could invent / create a possible exciting signing but I'm sorry I simply don't have any factual info to share.

TT you are a champion.

Most of the time, I feel us supporters are treated like mushrooms - so it is so good to have the light switched on from time to time. Thanks a million for your input, it is much appreciated - I am sure by everyone on this Forum.

Thanks again T.Torch your input is invaluable to steadying the forum ship….as many have noted prior to your valuable posts,we have been living under an umbrella of hearsay, innuendos and miles and miles of speculation...Iam particularly grateful to you as you have answered many questions that I have been wondering for quite awhile..cheers ...

You have strengthened this forums opinions in certain matters such as team selections and put to bed some rumours we hoped weren't true such as a split in the playing ranks.

Interesting info on contract negotiations too. Well done and thankyou.

.A vox pop of 7 support staff has a 4 / 3 majority supporting a win.

Out of all the info that was posted, this little tid bit here has got my attention the most. The coaching staff take a vote each week on whether or not they think we can win?

Tiger Torch, like many others have echoed on here, thanks very much for your insight and input it's greatly appreciated. Thanks for the compliment in your original post, I appreciate that also.

Just on a couple of the players you mentioned, whilst I appreciate Taylor wants Rankin ready to fill in for Teddy during Origin, I think he would be better served playing fullback in State Cup where he can at least work on his positional game and talking game which would allow Heleta to play in the centres. It's a shame Addo-Carr isn't in the top 25, because along with the likes of Teddy and Simona, he's undoubtedly one of the best finishers we have in the club.

Ideally it would have been nice to see Chee-Kam and Edwards in the backrow this week compared to Halatau and Lovett. Hopefully Taylor sees sense in playing Chee-Kam ahead of Buchanan next Monday.

I have my own theory on the deliberate and extreme use of local juniors…. It's a way of appeasing fans for their deficiencies in recruiting top level talent, imo.
Average locals are easier to cop than average imports ala Anastasia, who generate a lot of criticism moreso than a local

It might be about money and the hope that some of them will kick on… The club needs big bucks to sign its core talent not only the 4 but others so local juniors keeps the Chq book balanced .

We hit that 50% local jnrs quota pretty easily with a fit 1st choice 17:

Brooks
Farah
Halatau (North Ryde Hawks)
Rowdy
Lovett
Moses
Nofzilla
Siro
Jesse Sue (Macquarie Fields Hawks)
Teddy
Woods

No reason then why Lovett can't make way for guys like Chee-Kam, Edwards, Griffin, etc. if we're getting technical that is
