Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe says Gebbie will be available for selection after round 10.

Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe told The National yesterday that the 25-year old had undergone knee surgery after he arrived at the club last month.

He said the Koiari native's chances of debuting in the NRL this year would depend on his New South Wales Cup performances.

"Edene has been training with our NRL team," Pascoe said
"On his arrival where it was our first opportunity to do a medical review on Edene, we found a slight issue in his knee
"As a result he had a small operation to clean out his knee.

"He has been recovering from his operation and fitting in well with the team."

Pascoe said the focus of Gebbie's training for the past month had been physical rehab and he was also getting to know everyone around the club.

"He always has a big smile on his face," he said.
"Edene's contract is a train and trial deal which allows him to be selected after round 10, should we require.
"His chances this year would depend on his form in the reserve grade in which he should be back playing within the next two weeks."

Pascoe said their outside backs in previous seasons had lacked speed..

"Edene is a live wire," he said
"Our recruitment team identified speed as a factor missing from our squad and Edene has plenty of that.

"Hopefully, he gives his best in the reserve grade and anything is possible."

Has a good step! Running style makes it look like he isn't even trying to go fast. Maybe he even has another gear above what you can see in these highlights. Does look quick.

His stats at fullback were insane and Q Cup is traditionally harder than NSW cup. Scored a heap of tries and ran 200+ metres a game.

Man he looks fast as! Says in there he can play centre as well as wing and fullback. Can't wait to see him in our colours.

He is very fast and elusive unfortunately his defence is very ordinary.Having said that i hope he can fix that problem

Will be available to play after round 10. I wonder if Maguire will pick him.

more likely towards the end of the season you'd think, providing he makes the transition. don't think he'll regularly feature until 2022 after a full pre-season. we could be in for the long haul here similar to Justin Olam, but I definitely think Gebbie will take less work than Olam did at Melbourne.

Every second try in that highlight clip is a length of the field effort! A Robert Jennings catch and fall over the try line reel it ain't.

Probably closer than you think .....you have to remember when the Residents teams play against each other the Kumul players can't be picked by Qld

The only metric I know of for analysing it is looking at state championship results.

2020 - No game
2019 - Newtown defeated Burleigh 20-16
2018 - Canterbury defeated Redcliffe 42-18
2017 - Penrith defeated PNG 42-18
2016 - Illawarra defeated Burleigh 54-12
2015 - Ipswich defeated Newcastle 26-12
2014 - NQ Pride defeated Penrith 32-28

Been a while since a Q Cup team won this one and usually they get thrahsed to boot.

He’s a weapon
Can’t wait ...

He destroyed Q cup when he was there .

His stats at fullback were insane and Q Cup is traditionally harder than NSW cup. Scored a heap of tries and ran 200+ metres a game.

Lol is this your opinion or is there some consensus that suggests Q Cup is the harder comp?

Probably closer than you think .....you have to remember when the Residents teams play against each other the Kumul players can't be picked by Qld

Ah yeah actually that's also a thing and QLD residents have the wood on NSW that's true.

The only metric I know of for analysing it is looking at state championship results.

2020 - No game
2019 - Newtown defeated Burleigh 20-16
2018 - Canterbury defeated Redcliffe 42-18
2017 - Penrith defeated PNG 42-18
2016 - Illawarra defeated Burleigh 54-12
2015 - Ipswich defeated Newcastle 26-12
2014 - NQ Pride defeated Penrith 32-28

Been a while since a Q Cup team won this one and usually they get thrahsed to boot.

The best guide is the Qld Residents v NSW resident games Mac ...well imo anyway

It's a nice sentiment but I mean there are 3 to 1 NRL players in the NSW cup to QLD cup aren't there? QLD Cup has squaddies from Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and North QLD. NSW cup has all the other squaddies? I can't see how the comp could possibly be a higher level. I would go as far as to say that it seems to have more prestige though. Mostly because the NSW reserve grade comp is run like amateur hour and the QLD cup is run very well from what I can see.

The Kumul boys are as tough as teak too. Some of the footage I've seen of games in PNG are nuts. Tommy would have loved it, they play the game hard.
