Elijah Taylor joins Wests Tigers

Very solid signing. Have felt for a while now that we've not had a decent lock for some time.

Will push Sue into the front row as well and make him work.

From the panthers site, it say's long term deal.

Penrith Panthers can confirm that Elijah Taylor has been given a release from the remainder of his contract to take up a long term opportunity with another NRL club.

"Elijah has given the Panthers tremendous service in his three years at the club and has been a very popular member of our organisation," Panthers Executive General Manager Rugby League Phil Gould AM said.

"We appreciate his need to secure his future and wish him and his family well."

He will be here for a few years , don't know why people would think we have only signed him for half a year .

Can't believe people were sceptical, I mean you have a reputation and you were not going to lose that over a half baked guess, keep up the good work mate.

Because Pascoe said it in the media release:

“We have initially signed Elijah for the remainder of the 2016 season but we look forward to developing a long-term relationship for him as the year progresses.”

…I figured it could have had to do with avoiding a back-ended contract given they're no longer allowed. Sign him cheap for a remainder of season contract so that he has a chance to play first grade and then do up a separate contract for 2-3 years at a higher value later in the season. Back-ended contract successfully avoided.

Video of him on youtube shows he is very dangerous on the edge. Runs great lines like Lawrence. I wonder if Taylor will use him there or in the middle. Personally i would like to do what Parra are doing with Beau Scott. Start Elijah on the edge with Sue at lock. Then bring Siro on and move Elijah to the middle for the remainder of the game with Sue coming back on in the front row. Not sure where that leaves Aloiai though, who i rate.

Not a bad idea that. Would make a good fit to the team given Siro &/or Lovett are much more effective off the bench.

If ET starts at 13 and Sue moves to prop, that gives us Grant, Woods, Ava and Sue rotating in the front row.

Hallelujah, the Tigers just might have a prop rotation by mid year.

And that is a smart move by Pascoe…he has the rest of 2016 to prove to the WT he is worthy of an extended contract...

Yep, can't be handing contracts on a plate. Now he'll know to go out there and give it his all. When you're playing for a contract it can boost your performance.

I reckon he might be a tad on the small side for lock

But if you want to put him on an edge and move Sironen to lock , go for it

Very good signing. Adds starch and skill to our pack. Personally I would like to see him in the 2nd row with Lawrence, perhaps playing some time at lock. I think that Halatau will be moving on at the end of the year, but hopefully this does not push Lawrence out

No, it will do as you said. Halatau is finishing up at the end of the yr.

I'm rapt. Have been a fan of ET going all the way back to his Warriors days. I think he'll be a similar signing to what Bodene Thompson was.

“Elijah’s defence in the middle is as good as any player in the game so he will be a real asset for us and we are all really excited to have him join the Club.

He's of a fairly standard build for a lock, at least a workhorse type lock:

Ryan Hinchcliffe - 92kg, 6 ft 0 in
Dallas Johnson - 93kg, 6 ft 0 in
Shaun Fensom - 101kg, 6 ft 0 in
Sio Siua Taukeiaho - 101kg, 6 ft 0 in
Elijah Taylor - 102kg, 6 ft 3 in
Corey Parker - 102kg, 6 ft 2 in
Greg Bird - 102kg, 6 ft 0 in
Paul Gallen - 103kg, 5 ft 10 in
Trent Merrin - 104kg, 6 ft 0 in
Simon Mannering - 105kg, 6 ft 4 in
Dale Finucane - 106kg, 6 ft 2 in
Jake Trbojevic - 107kg, 6 ft 1in

There are bigger locks around like Greg Eastwood and Jason Taumalolo but they tend to play shorter minutes in more of an impact role.

First, ft told us, then TT seconded it, then JT sanctioned it, then it happened: ET came home!

Now if only we could fit Obi-Wan kenobi under the cap…........
