OFFICIAL Esan Marsters [Discussion]

To Esan. All us Wests Tigers Fans knows your capabilities, its good to see you Gain a little confidence today as each minute passed. well done. i was your big doubter but dont stop now. Good on you man good game for you this year Pats on the back mate

Pretty sure its been a confidence thing with him, no coincidence lift in form has come with handing over the goal kicking. On another note i think this Momo is going to be a handy centre....showed lots of resilience last few weeks

@larry2005 YES Credit to him, after such a poor start last week to bounce back the way he did MOMO Good on him too to hit back keeping/earning his spot in first grade with his next 140mins of football well done

Best game i can remember for a long time for him, what a difference when he hits the ball at speed

And what a difference when our forwards push over the ad line consistently

Meh..don't think he was going as bad this year as was being made out..

Was great last night but apart from his try off Marshall where he hit the hole he ran pretty much the same jink jink shimmy whoosh..

@Geo hes not been that bad, down on confidence but also much more heavily marked. I would say he is at the forefront to opposition coaches notes under backline attacking threats.

I've been one of the biggest critics of masters, he was ok last night....I want to see that from him every week, still not convinced just yet

I was hoping after his disastrous effort a few weeks ago that swapping kickers would be good for both him and Mbye.

Masters has lacked effort in my view for most of this season in both attack and defence, hence my previous comments about him have been that he seemed complacent in his position and needed a rocket. However last night was a big improvement so let’s hope he keeps it up and plays the game with intensity, like you’d expect from a Kiwi international centre.

Esan Marsters didn't need to look far to know he was struggling with form and confidence when he missed some simple conversions for the Wests Tigers this season.

Marsters went from kicking 76.7 per cent of goals last year to just 65.6 per cent in 2019 as the joint venture slumped to bottom spot overall.

A particularly off night with the boot at Bankwest Stadium in round 17 proved the final straw for the Kiwi international, who agreed with Michael Maguire to ditch the kicking duties in a bid to restore confidence.

He feared any further misses with the boot could've risked his position in the side. Young gun Tommy Talau remains in an extended squad for Saturday's clash with Canterbury.

"It wasn't just the kicking, it was my own performances as well," Marsters said.

"It was playing in the back of my mind. I think the pressure of not knowing if you're going to get the kick or not is now a weight off my shoulders.

"There's definitely a lot of expectations on myself but it comes back to me. I'm trying to get back on track now with no goal kicking. If that works then hopefully I'll just keep going with it."

Marsters came under fire from Andrew Johns during Channel Nine commentary recently for having "too much swing" when attempting to kick goals, particularly from close range.

He continues to work with Wests Tigers assistant coach and prolific goalkicker Brett Hodgson, who was renowned for an uncomplicated style and straight ball flight during his playing days.

"He's been trying to get me kicking straight, it's been working but I've got to keep practising and tweaking a few things," Marsters said.

"Madge and I spoke and said where my head was at and we felt like the best thing for the team was for me not to kick. But I'm still practising so hopefully I can kick again."

The Wests Tigers are aiming for three straight wins for the first time this season.

They were in a similar position to start the year until Canterbury upset them in round three in Campbelltown despite the side going in as heavy favourites, a trend that has occurred in recent history.

"It's tricky because we cop a lot of criticism around that but the last couple of weeks we've worked on our defence, especially on the edges," Marsters said.

"We're competing at training a lot more now."

Yet Benji says they train harder than we play to get used to the match day conditions ....

Must be in different dressing rooms

Does seem to be finding a little more confidence without the pressure of goal kicking, needs to hit the line as Lawrence does and his tries will come.

The Mole: Esan Marsters wants out of Wests Tigers
By The Mole

The Wests Tigers are in danger of losing star centre Esan Marsters next season.

The Kiwi Test ace is under contract for 2020 but has told those close to him he wants a release, with both the Cowboys and Bulldogs ready to swoop. The 23-year-old, who played every game for the Tigers last season and was the club's top pointscorer, is a frustrated footballer.

Marsters is a specialist right side centre - although he has played some recent games on the left edge - and sees little football with the Tigers principally a team that attacks down the left side. The strong centre is the Tigers' equal top tryscorer (nine) with fullback Corey Thompson this season, but believes he can do better with more ball.

Last Sunday's big win over the Dragons summed up Marsters' dilemma - he barely saw the ball, whereas his teammate Paul Momirovski bagged three tries on the opposite side of the field.

If Marsters does leave, expect the Tigers to go all out for sacked Knights centre Jesse Ramien.

if he feels that way move him on. I would be disappointed because i rate the kid but i want people that want to work hard and be here under madge. Im hoping this is more dribble.

Could also be why madge was sussing out lomax
