Esan Masters Please Stand Up

Im pretty sure Madge has said that he's been thrown the ball to kick and is practicing a lot to improve. So credit to him for stepping up to the plate. I don't know why Benji doesn't kick. He's no better or worse. Maybe fatigue might be a factor at his age.

What to do with Esan ! IMO he is done at Centre to slow / lazy defence /poor handling so where does it go from here? this is the issue the club is in moving forward.

This is the question. Is he the right option for us going forward. He is a New Zealand test centre but his performances for us have been ordinary this year. We need a lot better.

@Snake I feel the same. Masters has been this biggest disappointment in the WTs team this year. I would like to see him moved into the forwards, but there are obviously issues with filling his centre spot. I think Mbye, now playing in the centre's should be practising for a take over at goal kicking. Mbye is on big $$, so polish up the kicking and embrace Masters centre spot for next year. Momo to take the other centre spot (No worse or slower than Masters). Masters enjoy the back row somewhere brother because you have it too easy in the backs and aren't putting in.

Wow. The kid has a good game and everyone wants to get rid of him, move his position or demote him to NSW Cup. No doubt he hasn't had the influence on games as he did last year. That said he doesn't seem to be getting as much ball with Brooks seemingly given the keys to run the team and playing the other side and Matterson inside him this year he isn't getting the early ball he did last year. His carries are well down, but as a centre you are at the mercy of your halves. Last night the second and third tries came off the back of Marsters. The second he split them open with the offload to send Thompson down field and we scored the play later. The third, Marsters linebreak again got us down into the redzone and two plays later he puts in a big effort to get onto the end of Benji's kick and beat 2 defenders to the ball. He had 16 carries for 177m with a try, linebreak, linebreak assist and 3 offloads.

Everyone wants to roast him for the goal kicking, I'm assuming Madge is telling him he is the goalkicker, which obviously means there is no one better. What does the kid do? Tell Madge he isnt doing it? He is a young kid who is obviously still learning the trade as far as kicking goes. Missed goals has hurt us, although wouldn't have changed last nights result.

@jojo that’s a fair argument and I agree... he Stepped up last night because he had early ball and it was clearly evident that it was part of the plan to give him a lot of ball and space... goal kicking is an issue that needs to be addressed at the club, Esan unfortunately has to deal with it until we can get our hands on an accomplished goal kicker... seems to shoot his confidence abit.

@Madge Masters has to improve his LAZY defence and his handling he WAS given opportunity last night and blew it ! Forget the kicking it is his general play that is rubbish.. but that is my opinion ,he picks his game up or shown the door !

@jojo I agree with all of that but that was easily his best game of the season. We need a better kicker and he needs to improve on his best performance of the year.

@jojo very true. Even with the missed conversions last night, we would have still been 4 behind if he converted both. He did take a big step up in this game last night, but I think that due to Latrell dominating him last matchup and not wanting a repeat of that.

About not having a goal kicker, what about Benji? He kicked for us before.

He seems to be too nervous and serious when he approaches his kicks. He definitely not a natural goalkicker, in fact Momorovkis is much better at kicking.

Marsters issue is conditioning he needs to shred further weight and speed training. He performs well against most centres but when matched up with Latrell, Michael Jennings and other athletic backs he just gets burnt for speed and is tentative. Makes mistakes later in halves and games and too often tries to step through as defenders know he can’t burn them on the outside.

Better we have the extra 4 points. Our for and against is taking a beating, that may be the reason we miss out on a finals berth:white_frowning_face:

@TYGA he’s not a natural centre ? Idk why people think he’ll shred enormously and randomly generate some speed. First things first, run straighter like last night, whatever position

I thought last night was a better game ....but his goal kicking is killing us and could cost us a spot in the top 8 through for and against alone

We won tonight but this guy still contributed nothing.

He is the most overrated player in the game.

Done nothing all year, besides miss his goalkicks.

@rah53 I don't know what's happening inside but Madge just wont drop him for whatever reason, he needs to be dropped. Needs to wake up to himself.
