Extra-time points revamp up for debate

Play extra time. If you score from a field goal you kick off. If you score a try or Penalty conversion you receive the ball from a kick off.

Both teams get a point winner gets the second point. If it remains a draw at end of extra time points stay 1 each.

Just scrap it during the premiership rounds. Sure, keep extra time for finals and SOO, but that is the only place that it belongs.

Imagine going back to the old days ...Tuesday replays ...more footy ....I miss the old days

Forget extra time got the moment - during the 80 minutes allocated I would make each try scorer attempt conversion of their own tries, I’m tired of watch ing specialist kickers grind out wins.
In the scenario mentioned above the game would be so much more exciting as I could imagine a lot more positioning of passes to suitable kickers to score tries.
Imagine the game on the line when some big bopper scores a try under the posts to level the game - then sprays the conversion all over the place because he can’t kick for nuts!
The game is currently too predictable.

My first thought is no and my second is that it will lead to much less attacking footy, as taking a tap would become a very poor choice and penalty goals even more prevalent.

What about if you get thrashed by 40 points ....what do you get then ??

A kick up the backside

Until their nose bleeds I hope

Don't see the point in extra time, if you can't win a game in 80mins too bad.
The last 10 mins of the game turns into golden point.

In games where we need a result, 10min extra time golden try.
If still drawn, scissors paper rock.

Regular season Draws after 80 mins share points

Finals 10 mins extra time, if still drawn another 10 mins extra time. If still drawn game replay.

And bring back midweek playoffs for teams finishing on same points for 8th place!

@cochise I like the idea of playoffs but good luck getting the RLPA agreeing to additional games.

Yeah no chance, but a team should not miss the finals on for and against imo!

Its a much better idea than the stupid wildcard weekend they were discussing!

Stuff this each team gets a point for a draw, last year was so much better with the odd numbers in the run to the final.

Either that or scissor paper rock (best of 3, coin toss to see who starts and switching ends after each round). No dynamite and wade graham is banned from being the nominated player.

Get out of here with your draws. Boring! 5 mins each way of extra time is the solution. Easy to understand and it's a fair system.

Why though? it is pointless, if at the end of 90 mins you can still have a draw there is no point to playing the extra 10 mins. The extra 10 mins doesn't eradicate the possibility of a draw

I have to disagree with you on draws being boring. If after 80 minutes 2 teams are locked on equal points they both have deserved to walk off the field with a point.

80 mins of league with 10 mins of Rugby union.
That's what golden point is basically.

I don't understand how this relates to Rugby!

Rugby is smart enough not to have golden point in the normal rounds

Rugby they take field goals throughout the game. It's a main scoring opportunity.
In league it's only a last resort when trying to steal a game.
So we play 80 mins of normal stuff followed by 10 mins of some other sport that we didn't see in the first 80 mins.
All rules go out the window too. Defence never onside.
Golden point isn't rugby League that's for sure.

I watched 70 or 80 games of Club Rugby (West Harbour Shute Shield and their lower grades) last year and saw only 2 field goal attempts. One was 2 mins before full time and one was after full time and probably more tries are scored in Club Rugby than NRL. In the NRL its not uncommon to see 4 or 5 field goal attempts in a match.

I'm an avid supporter of both clubs and both codes and I can see the good and bad sections of both games

That's extremely uncommon except when golden point starts and both sides can't slot one.

The game of rugby league is forgotten after 80 mins. Then it becomes something else that's not rugby league. It's undeniable.
Look at the play the ball during golden point. Offside rule especially for the markers disappear.

Totally agree, thats why I hate golden point.

Never been a fan of a team playing their hearts out for 80 mins only to loose to a bad call or lucky field goal. That's an absolute s..t outcome.

But it does not become Rugby after 80 mins
