Farah and Marshall refused testimonial game by NRL

Looks like a ride in the back of a Hilux Ute on Grand Final day will suffice for Robbie and Benji .

@happy_tiger Yes it was, had to be as the players kept the money raised salary cap free!

They'd be paying a Motza in tax , so as long as it was totally reported by to the ATO their shouldn't be an issue

To be honest would probably be no reason they could promote it outside the game (NRL ) , they'd only need to get permission from the NRL to use a Stadium I'd guess

@jrtiger Not really explains why the NRL went after us over the Farah situation as they couldn't understand why Farah didn't want huge money to return from reserve grade. but they are more than happy to let big clubs sign current players under market value because they always wanted to play for the Roosters or who ever. The NRL will bend the rules for certain clubs.

Benji and Farah were not in the starting sides at Souths or the Broncos unless there were injuries before they came back to the club. I doubt the 2 players main motivation to come back was money as both are club legends and both left the club in sour situations which were a stain on the club and the players which is now close to a distant memory if they can get the club to the finals.

No one expected as much as we have gotten out of both of them since they returned. They are not the players they were in their peak but they are smarter and always compete. Just enjoy every game we get to see them play as there isn't many left.

Will be impossible to replace them when they retire with the amount they will free up so hopefully we can make some smart decisions with the upcoming signings.

Personally asking the NRL to help organize the testimonial for a player that left the code is truly hypocritical

And the same would apply to Gasnier , Tuqiri , Rogers and Sailor

You leave the code .....too bad so sad

@Tiger_Steve There is a criteria and Robbie and Benji fail it because they didn't play their careers at one club, apparently you can only bend the rules for Thurston.

Don’t know how Greenberg sleeps at night. How can he justify breaking the rule for one and not another?

Both Marshall and Farah are former internationals, premiership winners and, in Marshall’s case, once judged the best player in the world. Neither has ever disgraced rugby league off the field ..... unlike others afforded testimonial games or letters of recommendation. Greenberg needs a rocket - I wonder the best way to embarrass the NRL into giving these guys what they deserve?

@Snake They need a decent testimonial game, agreed because they have been those people that young kids hear about when they talk Rugby League, growing up, All i heard was Benji Marshall this, Benji Marshall that, and farah has played Origin.

Benji's code swapped might be a reason. Maybe cause he's Kiwi? Who knows. who really cares? if it gets Wests 2 points I'm interested, otherwise meh.

Testimonials back in the day were for long serving players of a Club for a golden handshake for years of service when the game wasn't professional as a kicker going into retirement..

There is no real need for them now..

Have a tribute game or farewell match for the fans to show appreciation..then throw some cans up to them on to the scoreboard at Leichhardt to celebrate..

A testimonial dinner seems a better idea with funds raised going to a charity of their choice...

@Geo what does it take to get a Tigers supporter fired up ...2 players can do it but the rest can get stuffed ! It was like what happened earlier in the year it is about principle ! I could not give a crap either way but someone has to arch up about the inappropriate decisions from the governing body or do Tigers supporters just lay down ... where is Barry and his contacts 😂

Mate I don't agree those flogs got one either...as I said a Dinner and Barry can bring all his friends ...cost of entry..bottle of grange..

I think it's a disgrace. Benji has brought more to the game than Smith for sure. The commentators love him, but he's hardly a likeable guy. Kids certainly wouldn't be drawn to the game because of him.

Thurston is debatable because he's a star and likeable. But I'd still have my money on Benji.

Wonder if cLaw will get one? Played for Aus.

Nobody should get a testamonial. Earn what you earn without special games to cash in on.

@Snake should not be using this story however to slag off Tigers management. It's got nothing to do with the Tigers.

100% agree. The issue is almost secondary to the principle. This is the second inconsistent, unfair (using your word Todd) judgement against the Tigers this year. The other being Laurie Daley ruling. The only way to be fair is to have transparent policy that are consistently administered. I really hope we take this issue up. Greenberg and his keystone cops need to be challenged.

Marshall played Union .....don't blame the NRL , they didn't make him do that

Geez Marshall left in a huff, even showed off wearing another jersey while still at Tigers and Farah wasn’t PR material before he left either.

They’re back now at Tiger town but I don’t think they deserve any special NRL treatment.

I think after retirement they will both look back and have regrets about leaving the Tigers in the first place.

@diedpretty Not only is Greenburg way out of his depth he is completely one sided and unfair. He is a slave to moneyand nothing else because Smith and Thurston would generate more publicity, kudos and money to his organisation.

@cqtiger No that's true, but at the end of the day a cheat has been given a testimonial game, every chance that Gallen will get one and someone like Sutton who was bog average for Souths for years and managed to win a premiership because of GI and the Burgii got one. It's more the lack of consistency from the NRL once again.

Farah and Marshall had to be punted from this club so we could have success.
God they were great years...remember when the problems were removed and the years of success that followed. Wow talk about glory days....
If a club removes players and then has them back, they sort of undermines the request.

@gallagher another team that missed the finals...maybe play it in early September.
Hell I'm getting cynical but we always have time available about then
