Yep it's a crime and that dude in some trouble. I thought it would turn out to be some teen who can't be named and who'd get a warning but someone suggested he had a credit card earlier in this thread so who knows.

Name and shame…

Knowing our justice system, the dog will get off and they'll charge Farah for his reply.

Good on him for giving the pissant a serve.

What are the chances the guy can just claim someone hacked his account or stole his phone or something like that? They can trace it back to the source of the tweet, but not prove who was pressing the buttons…

could someone PM me what was said and what farah's reply was?

Robbie himself retweeted the offending tweet. It should still be on twitter. Also a quick google will tell you. I'm just giving these options because I don't feel right even about typing a PM to you using the original wording. Let's just say it concerned his mother and a fairly juvenile taunt.

Possible i guess but whether that would stand up in investigation would be questionable.

But this is the stupid thing

Next thing you now this scums Mum and Dad (who's identity will remain anonymous) will be up in arms saying why did you close his account

Then some civil libertarian will be on the TV saying as disgusting as the tweet was he has the right to say what he wants …...

Then it goes to court and the knitwit wins the courtcase

This world is a screwed up place

I don't think any of those things will happen

Horrible things are said on the Internet everyday. Just because you play footy dosn't mean your exempt from scumbags. I just wish Farah hadn't replied the way he did. It will take the focus off the lowlife and onto him because he actually threatened violence. Just block the **** and go back to being the best 9 in the world and he can go back to being a jealous douche.

The d***head deleted the tweet, I saw robbie's reply just then but can't find the original tweet. I'd really appreciate a PM if you could. Just want to fully understand the situation

Basically involved him saying he would have intercourse with his mother and would have to wear a gas mask to cover the smell but would still do it.

Obviously I changed the words around a bit so no swearing but you get the idea.

They can trace the ip address of the time and date the tweet was sent and the guy has a record of saying stupid stuff so assuming its all on the same computer as the rest of his tweets will be in some serious trouble.

How does someone get access to your Twitter account? Is it like Facebook and you need to be a 'friend'?

As terrible as this is, hopefully people learn from this and reduce their exposure within these public/social media circles…. If you are high profile personality, you WILL become a target!

Not sure what you mean Watto. It's basically just an email address with the messages being public. Anyone can send a message to Robbie Farah or anyone so long as they know their twitter name.

I don't even want to type it but involved his late mother and necrophilia, nothing more needs to be said.

Wests Tigers rugby league captain Robbie Farah has made a statement about a vile comment he received on his Twitter account last night.
Farah has provided a report to NSW Police who are looking into the matter. The vile comment referred to his mother Sonia Farah, who passed away in June.
“I was very shocked and appalled to receive this vile comment on my twitter account last night,’’ Farah said.
“Whilst I’m all for banter on Twitter and people expressing their opinions, this was personal about my late mother who I am still grieving about.
“As a rugby league player, I understand people are going to have different opinions about me, my football club, or the weekend’s results, and I accept that by putting myself on Twitter.
“I know I will get positive and negative messages and I need to be accountable for the way I respond to these comments.
“However the tweet I received last night clearly crossed the line and was personal abuse of the worst possible kind, not only to myself but my family.
“I understand NSW Police do have some powers to take action against people who post abusive comments online and I appreciate the efforts they are making.
“However I encourage the Federal Government to strengthen social media laws so that these cowards are made accountable for their actions and people can be protected from the kind of disgusting personal abuse that I have received.”

Just a side note on the issue, earlier in the year a student in the UK was sentenced to 56 days (8 weeks) gaol over a offensive (racist) tweet against Francis Muamba, who had suffered a heart attack during a match.

Well said Robbie.

PREMIER Barry O'Farrell told Triple M that police have been supplied with the computer IP address of the troll who attacked Tigers captain Robbie O'Farrah.
The Wests Tigers and Origin hooker, whose mum died in June, was targeted by an internet 'troll' who posted a disturbing, sexually explicit tweet about his mother on Sunday night.

It prompted an instant backlash online, with Farah's supporters lining up to condemn the abuse, which was posted using the Twitter handle maxpower118.

Mr O'Farrell weighed in as Farah's supporters demanded action.

"Shouldn't matter who target is - completely unacceptable,'' the premier tweeted.

"Will follow up & happy to work with Feds to stop it.''

Farah himself responded to maxpower118, saying he'd `rip his face off' had the abuse been said to him in person.

It appears the maxpower118 account, which used a skull-like face as a profile picture, was deleted soon after the row erupted.

The incident comes shortly after Sydney-based actor Charlotte Dawson, 46, was rushed to hospital after being subjected to a torrent of internet abuse.

Following her recovery, the Kiwi-born actor spoke out about the trolls in a TV interview - and then suffered even more abuse.

Her case prompted fresh debate about possible new laws making it harder to post anonymous abuse online, and the Farah case is certain to spur more calls for action.

A number of abusive tweets have been prosecuted in the UK, where there are laws governing what is said and written on social networking sites.

In April, 21-year-old Liam Stacey was jailed for 56 days after he posted racist `jokes' about the footballer Fabrice Muamba, who collapsed and neary died during a match.

More recently, a teenager was arrested after he allegedly posted abuse to the British diver Tom Daley. The teenager was released with a warning.

Hopefully we can adopt some type of laws in Australia that may see people think before they write rubbish like this peanut…

his ip address was found by fans so can you imagine what the cops can do.
