Farah cautious of luckless Eels

Wests Tigers Captain Robbie Farah remains very cautious of a luckless Parramatta Eels outfit ahead of their clash at the Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday.

The Eels were the last side to beat Wests Tigers before their five game winning streak, winning 22-6 at Parramatta Stadium in round 18.

“They have been a bit unlucky in the last month and have played some fairly decent footy but haven’t been able to come up with the result,’’ Farah said prior to the team’s final training run this morning.

“Parramatta have lost 2 games in Golden Point. They were up 18-0 against Melbourne and were leading Manly last week as well, so they are no mugs by any mean. They are playing decent footy and have been unlucky not to get the results.”

Farah couldn’t explain why the Eels enjoyed such a stronghold over Wests Tigers, having won 15 of 23 matches between the clubs.

“There is a bit of a running rivalry. Two Sydney clubs with big supporter bases. Whenever we play, there always seems to be a great atmosphere which helps with the intensity of the game,’’ Farah said.

“Sunday afternoon footy at the Sydney Football Stadium is always a great spectacle so hopefully it will be the same tomorrow. We need our supporters there to really get behind us.”

Farah said the loss to the Eels culminated in a very ordinary month for the Club at the time.

“After that game, it came to the point where we knew we had to turn things around quickly. Our season was slowly slipping away,’’ he added.

“We had lost 3 in a row and we were in the papers every day for all the wrong reasons. It was a tough period but as a playing group, we stuck together and we worked hard .

“Slowly we have managed to turn things around to get our season back on track.”

Farah said the side was well aware of its golden opportunity to move into the top four over the next 3 weeks.

“A month before the semi-finals is when you want to be slowly building and playing your best footy,’’ Farah said.

“We have still got 3 games ahead so we don’t want to look too far ahead. We are not in a position where we can get a bit complacent and we find ourselves finishing 7th or 8th.

“The goal is to build slowly going into the semi finals and give ourselves every chance to finish as high as we can.

“It’s good for us that those teams above us (St George-Illawarra and the Cowboys) are losing but it means nothing if we can’t take advantage of that and win tomorrow and the next two weeks.”
