Farah goes back to basics

WESTS Tigers skipper Robbie Farah says a plan to simplify his game paid off with a starring role in the annual City v Country clash at Port Macquarie on Friday night.

Farah was among City's best as they fell to a 36-18 defeat against a Josh Dugan-led Country side in an entertaining contest.

City coach John Cartwright was effusive in his praise of Farah after the game, declaring him the "most creative player on the field".

The battle between City skipper Farah and his opposing hooker, Canterbury's Michael Ennis, was one of game's big talking points with the clash viewed as an audition for the NSW State of Origin side.

But Farah told BigPond Sports Weekend that thoughts of a Blues jersey didn't enter his mind in the lead-up to Friday night's game.

"I tried to get back to doing the little things last night. I tried to complicate my game a little bit at the Tigers and speaking to Carty, he just told me to be a little bit more patient and to get myself in the game that way and opportunities would come," he said.

"I thought defensively I got involved and I tried to put as much pressure on the kickers as I could, and tried to just get involved in that way."

Former Roosters coach Brad Fittler declared the City-Country game the most entertaining game of the season and Farah said the relaxed mindset of the players had contributed to the free-flowing action.

"We enjoyed the whole week. It was a very relaxing camp, they made it very enjoyable for us," he said.

"It was a bit less intense than a normal NRL game in terms of our lead-up but our attitude was right and I thought that showed on the field."

And Farah was full of praise for Raiders prodigy Dugan, who was a standout for Country in his first senior representative game.

The 19-year-old scored one try and laid on another to give the Blues selectors plenty of food for thought in the lead-up to Origin I.

"He's a player with a big future ahead of him. He's been performing week in, week out for Canberra and he showed again what he's capable of last night," Farah said

Let's see if he does likewise for the Tigers this week instead of overplaying like recent weeks.

Yawn….blah bla blah...

Sick of the talk......Just play better.....

I agree, do not try to do too much.
keep it simple, and good results should follow.

Whilst I do agree with this, I thought friday night was farahs best of the year. He for out of dummyhalf but instead of doing eveything himself he mainly just fedthe ball. Then when he did do something creative it was more effective.

I think he's still stuck in the mindset this year that he's got to carry the team and that is probably the reason for him overplaying.

Robbies game was absolutely awesome in trail game against the sharks with Benji out. Lui supported him well. I really hope we get to see Lui and Farah get those combo's working again when Lui is back.

I love robbie like i love my apply ipad and 911\. But reading between the lines i think robbie wont be picked for origin. The media are on ennis and the facts are the grub won in a dead rubber and laurie daley loves the little squirt. Robbie will just have to settle for end of year kangaroo tours

This advice should apply to Benji , even more so.

Farah does not deserve Origin on form. Pretty simple

While you're right there Smeg, Farah could have played out of his skin up until now and still wouldn't be selected.

Christ I reckon even if he took a bullet for Daley, he would still choose Ennis over him.

But, at least nepotism works both ways, he's played for Australia, something that Ennis probably will never do.

Well Farah did have his chance and he had a bit of a shocker.. he didn't play too well for Australia too. I can't blame them for not wanting to take a risk that he might choke again.

I love the guy, wouldn't swap him for any other hooker in the comp. But, I would understand their reasons if they didn't pick him.

Plus, who on here really want's him to get picked!? Would be great if we had our full squad during origin time.

dont worry, Farah will be playing for wests during the origin period. ennis will get the nod - better suited for state of origin - more dirty, so nsw needs him more.

It could also be the catalyst which helps get him back into top form too.

I'll be happier if Farah doesn't get named and is instead playing with us.

Origin's been a joke since it turned into a game of pick-your-favourite-players for the Blues' selectors - it doesn't look like changing this year.

Robbie plays his best football when he is focused on the basic's? You only have to go back through history to realise the Hookers who do the 'basic' always stand out as the superstars of the game. This is all anyone wants from a Hooker!!!

Makes his tackles, Chase hard, Provide good ball from dummy half, have 4-5 runs from dummy half with a running forward each half, and trys something creative 2 -3 times each half. These are his KPO's and anything less is a poor performance.

The sooner Robbie realises he isnt the 'playmaker' and 'shots caller', the more games the Tigers will win this year…
:brick:

A wise old fart of a coach sat me down one day and told me "you have to put yourself in a position to win a game, before you can win a game"
:sign:

 He is one of the playmakers ….cause that's what he wants.....

Especially love the kicks out of dummy half for Lote....real basic and he's tried it every game since Lortay's miracle touch down against Parra....
