The South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed Robbie Farah for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Farah has played 247 NRL games to date for the Wests Tigers since making his first grade debut against the Sea Eagles in 2003.

Farah has also played a host of representative football for his state and country over his 14 year career and is the incumbent New South Wales State of Origin hooker.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is pleased to be adding Farah to his squad for the 2017 season.

“Robbie has accomplished many things in the game and we look forward to him joining our squad and pushing for a spot in our top 17 each week,” Coach Maguire said.

“Competition for spots is a driving factor for success at any Club and by adding a player of Robbie’s ability we will be increasing that competition within our squad.

“Within our organisation we believe Robbie will strengthen our Club and we look forward to working with him when he joins us for pre-season training.”

The Rabbitohs have also agreed to a request from Cameron McInnes to release him from the final year of his playing contract.

McInnes has played 39 NRL matches for the Rabbitohs since making his debut against the Dragons in 2014.

Coach Maguire said: “We wanted to keep Cam here at Souths but he feels that the best opportunity for him at this stage of his career is at another club.

“Cam has done a great job for us over the three years he’s been playing first grade, he has great respect from his peers, he’s a fantastic young man and we wish him nothing but the best for the rest of his career.”

smart signing by souths. they got a nsw hooker for 250 thousand a year. a bargain. we have plodders in our team on more than that. best of all he can play against us next year. another smart move by management

They may be paying only $250k for Robbie, but how much of South's cap is Robbie taking? Not $250k surely - the NRL wouldn't accept it. The real issue for us is not what we and Souths are paying, but how much cap space we save, which will probably be closer to a $450k saving.

So now we are left with an aging, injury prone hooker nearing the end of his career and a young bloke just out of u/20's to fill the hookiing role,we now look a little light on in covering this position.

good luck wobbie.

round 3.. tigers vs rabbitohs at LO
robbie's 250th against tigers at LO. make it happen, nrl

I don't like to say it but what if he puts on a blinder as he is capable of? Can't wait for Jason's presser afterwards.

all differences aside. this is a shrewd signing by souths. It could end up like the doggies who let ennis go and we all know how that finished up . they get a nsw hooker for peanuts and we pay most of the dollars. a masterstroke by souths if you ask me.
the blowtorch is on the coaching staff and management now

You could be right, they are attempting to correct their mistake with Ennis - what **rabbit** will WT pull out of the hat? (are Souths letting a good one go)
