if souths pay 450k, and we pay 500k + 250k for this year. shouldnt only 500k be on our cap for next year?
250k is just from this years money which we still owe him, correct me if im misunderstanding
Has anybody replied to pHyR3’s post (above)?
The numbers included in the SMH article don’t make sense without further explanation.
It says that Robbie’s contract for next year is $950k. It also says that the WT will pay $750k of that.
It then goes on to say that Robbie will get around $1.2m next year when Souths top up his contract, and that he will rival Jaryd Hayne as the highest paid player in the NRL.
So, that means that, while Robbie is contracted to receive only $950k next year, the Tigers and the Rabbits are actually going to pay him a combined $1.2m. Why?
I could understand it if the Tigers were paying $750k and Souths $200k, but that the NRL are requiring Souths to carry Robbie under the Salary Cap at $450k (even though they are only paying $200k of that).
But that doesn’t mean that because the Tigers are paying $750k next year and Souths are carrying him under the cap at $450k that Robbie is actually being paid $1.2m (ie $750k + $450k). He is still only being paid $950k.
It also means that if Souths are carrying him under their cap at $450k, then he is costing the Tigers $500k of cap space, a saving under the cap of $450k.
A lot more clarification is required.
I'm wondering why everybody is taking any of the figures as fact when it's now nearly a week since RF was "released" & reportedly going to sign elsewhere within the following 48 hours but yet no official announcement re that signing from the next club .
