Farewell to the season

Hi all

it's been another year like many others before, and dare I say it, with a few more to follow. The 10K present at Leichhardt Oval yesterday are a testament to the fact that our spirit has not been amputated, and that a core group will not opportunistically jump on or off the winning band wagon. Within this loyal group, I place a lot of people that are on this forum.
I don't think I personally know any of you, by your alias, however over the many years, I've sort come to know you by your wit, your passion, your depth of despair to the heights of success - what a ride it is every year! For this, I thank you all. As I move to football hibernation, I will read about the usual turmoil, rumours, scandals, player's revolt, innuendos and all that circles rugby league and sells papers. But in the end, the only source of truth will be what is displayed on the field. To the extent that the club will still manage to elicit reactions out us all, we'll still have a beating black and gold heart. Win or lose. And there is no better place to vent than amongst friends!
Happy off season, everyone!

I wonder how quickly I can convince myself we are a chance to have a good season next season. The sooner the better.

I'm normally optimistic about our season before it has started however this year thought we would struggle and finish bottom end of the table - didn't think we would come last by the margin we did though.

If we are being real on next year with the current roster signed even if we double our winning count of 4 to 8 we hit 18pts and would finish about 12th at best (not in top 8 contention).
You need 10-15 wins to make the 8 these days.

Odds are against us making the top 8 next year.
Only 2 teams in last 10yrs have come from last and made it.

Below are the wooden spoons since 2012 and the result the year after.

2021 - Bulldogs 3 wins - 12th
2020 - Broncos 3 wins - 14th
2019 - Titans 4 wins - 9th
2018 - Eels 6 wins - 5th
2017 - Knights 5 wins - 11th

2016 - Knights 1 win / 1 draw - 16th (lasted 3yrs in a row)
2015 - Knights 8 wins - 16th (lasted 3yrs in a row)
2014 - Sharks 5 wins - 4th

2013 - Eels 5 wins - 10th
2012 - Eels 6 wins - 16th (lasted 3yrs in a row)

If we can keep players on field next year we won't be getting back to back spoons.. Injuries was a massive problem for us this year IMO.

Injuries are always key every season.

Just to get away from the spoon we are 3 games worse off (2 wins and F&A) that teams above us but those teams directly above us have mostly improved the rosters except for really the Knights.

Warriors - improves across the park, some good pickups for them
Knights - Elliot & Heatherington going to them & losing Barnett.
Titans - could argue they will improve with Verrills & Foran however Wallace is leaving.
Bulldogs roster is improving
Dolphins will be the unknown

Yes but the depth to carry them is key here.
For our top 30 at full strength the first 13 are decent, the next best 5 are average, the next 5 are mediocre and the final 7 are terrible.
Too many injuries and all the mediocre guys play regularly and quite a few of the terrible players also get a game....we actually used 33 this year so it was even worse than normal.
We cant keep letting go of depth guys such as Garner. Who is he to be replaced by?

nice post to end the season...I was amongst the 10k yesterday with my son....before the game i was resigned to the fact we'd cop a beating, so when the Raiders put on 42 in the first half I was not surprised nor upset (disappointed yes!), my son was spewing and really took to heart the poor performance....poor kid felt for him...till next year!.

I dont blame him.
At halftime it looked like a record loss was coming.
Luckily the Raiders backed off.

Very accurate assessment imho

Thanks to the 4000 raiders fans that made the trek up

That’s so funny because it’s true. We must all be eternal optimists because by the time the GF is over we’re all talking up our chances for next season 😀
I guess prolonged high cortisol levels will kill you so maybe it’s weirdly self preservation…..

From What is happening so far, my feelings for next year are not so good.

Its no use getting nobody's on 3 year contracts now,
because it will put us back in the boat we just started to escape from.

And to me at the moment, we are financially in the best position we've been in for year's, go for it throw some big offers at some big names, show club supporters you are at least trying to improve our team.
