Favourite childhood RL memory

Maybe not the favourite but I remember in the late 80s /early 90s there was this terrific theme song at finals time which was played when the players ran out (I used to go to every final, regardless of who was playing).

This theme stuck with me and I never worked out what it was...until a few years ago.
It is this tune which makes me think of a great time in league and a finals aura which I loved.
Enjoy.

Mark O'Neill's intercept against Parramatta at Leichhardt Oval early in 2002 (Round 2)

It still sends shivers down my spine.

Would love to see a replay of it.

Seeing Sirro in action as an 8 or 9 year old at Leichhardt Oval. I idolised him as a child and seeing him in person was like witnessing Jesus in the flesh.

I also went to the 7’s at Parra Stadium before it was the World 7’s, all the teams had a marquee set up so met plenty of players and got a full autograph book. Remember seeing Gavin Miller on the way to the car when we were leaving like it was yesterday. I must have been 5 or 6.

running up after my game at Blackmore Oval to watch Balmain play.

Also, Siros last game for balmain. Pouring rain. Will never forget it. My fav growing up.

I was at that game, loved the concert after the game on top of the toilet block.

My memories are more around playing and watching country football than the Winfield Cup. I remember playing with my mates and watching the Aberdeen Tigers winning premierships in 1985, 87, 89, 91, 92 and 93. Dad making a dummy of a Muswellbrook Rams player and hanging it from the light pole outside of McKinnon Field for the 1985 GF. I have faint memories of my dad playing, that was the reason I started following Balmain at age 4 because I thought the team playing on TV was my dad's team as they played in the same jerseys.

I remember going to the City v Country game in Newcastle around 1985 and my 1st Winfield Cup game in 1988, Balmain v Newcastle at Newcastle. Watching Aberdeen win used to be as big as watching Balmain win for me, still love to get to Mckinnon field for an Aberdeen game, though I no longer know the players.

Similar mate..my great love as a young kid was watching the Oberon tigers probably one of the best bush sides for over a decade, I think it may have been 1964, anyway they beat St George in a early season trial match...and that’s how I jumped onto the Balmain Tigers. When I left school I moved to Balmain and not long after purchased my first house a small terrace in Balmain.....smartest thing I ever did

I remember regularly going to the old Sydney Sports Ground when I was a kid to watch the match of the day. In those days the players from the FG would stand in the crowd with the punters watching the lower grades with their families - and dad always took us to the area where we knew they stood so my brother and I could get their autographs in our books. Every time I saw Artie Beetson he signed another page in my book. I can still visualise the signature.

Balmain played a season or two at the sports ground when Leichhardt was being renovated. The Saturday match of the day was usually at the cricket ground

As a kid I always said I was going to buy a house across the road from LO, I had never even been there at that point lol. I played there in 1994 and that was my first visit to the ground.

Vossy asked a bunch of players on his show, The Fan.

What is your favourite childhood rugby league memory?

For me, I use to love watching the games and seeing all the jerseys.
Use to the think they were the best.
Especially Tigers and the bears jerseys.

Then I remember the 05 GF also and just how exciting the tigers were across the field.

Have many childhood memories as a kid growing up in a great era 60s and 70s . But I’ll never forget my younger brother and I going to bed on a Friday night dressed in our full footy gear less boots in total excitement ahead of our game the next morning for Sylvania Heights

Racing into the field, elbows and knees flying to beat the other kids to get the black and white striped cardboard corner posts. Usually didn’t get them clean- busted and ripped in half normally.....

Being at Leichhardt oval for Wayne Pearce's final game. Just played at Blackmore oval and rushed up to watch the game. Just wanted to be a tiger from that moment on and luckily played Harold Matts (Minor Premiers- vice captain), SG Ball, Jersey Flegg for the Tigers (these were also my favorite memories)....another one would be winning my first GF when I was u/16's with Holy Cross after spending all my years with St Pat's Dundas not winning anything. That winning feeling was amazing after always getting pumped for years.

Larry was one of my favourite Tigers, 2nd only behind Beetson.

getting picked up from home by my dad and driving to Callan park and walking to the game (something I now do with my son and pick dad up on the way)

Wayne Pearce's last game, Sirro/Roach etc as well

going to the 88 GF and being shattered
going to the 89 GF and being shattered, then driving down to thread and stopping at McDonalds, walking in my Tigers Jersey, and it being a sea of green jumpers... raiders fans everywhere.

Balmain vs Wests Leichhardt 1989, jumping the fence with mates

Gary Jack picking his teeth out of the turf and putting them in his sock

Micheal O'Connor kicking that conversion to win SOO

Kangaroos tours - when they had mid week games

so many memories, but the first up there is still my favourite

Australia vs Great Britain at the SCG ,people were sitting on the roof tops. Don't remember the year , but my heart was beating out of my chest . I think Bishop and Hardisty were the Pommie halves, not to sure of the side s now, probably Raper at lock and Smith as half.

As far as theme music invoking great childhood Rugby League memories, nothing beats this for me.
