Hi All,

It has been a long 3 1/2 year wait for any socceroo fan, the way the last World Cup ended for us was just tragic.
We showed glimpses of magic and held our own vs the best the World had to offer.

I think the boys will fall short and will exit in the Group stage.
:frowning:
I believe that we have the talent but lack the technical and tactical prowess to shake it up.
Pim is no Guus and that is where the problem lies for the Socceroos.
We seem to have no direction when playing and we struggle to adjust quickly when the opposition turn it on.

The squad is relatively strong and doesnt really differ too much from 06.

How do **YOU** rate our chances this time around?
Will Pim Verbeek have what it takes to mastermind an assault on the Heavyweights (if we get into the second round?
Do we have a stronger squad than '06?
Who will take it out?

I hope I am wrong and the boys can get into the second round. Can hardly wait to see the spectacle that is the FIFA World Cup.

I believe that Germany will be lifting the Cup with an England squad in tears watching on.

Australia has a tough battle to make it past the first round. But then again, they had a tough battle in 2006.

Anyway, I'll be more focused on the NRL. I remember watching a couple games (or at least parts of games) in the 2006 world cup. I thought to myself "Yeah, it's pretty exciting. Almost as good as a Wests Tigers game."

Australia will be lucky to win a game this time around. They are in a strong group and recent performances have been weak IMO.

They don't have a warm up against strong opposition which would have helped them to prepare.

Spain have to be the favourites at this point but they are one injury to Torres away from a down turn in performance.

Looking forward to this world cup was in South Africa last year and they are ready to put on a good show,

Looking forward to it.

GO THE ALL WHITES!

Won't win a match but as long as we're competitive and show we deserve to be there, I'll be a happy chappy

P.S - Go the Phoenix on Sunday. Sold out match here in Wellington, and I'll be there cheering them on!

Germany are vulnerable at the moment according to the locals (mainly due to the suicide of their goalkeeper) so if we can pull a draw in the first match that would be amazing and in my opinion almost secure us a position in the top 16.

Thats why I picked them. Most teams need an internal purpose to push them to their limits.
Losing a mate would be enough motivation for me to leave nothing in the tank and win it.

I live my life by this saying:
"On the other side of the clouds, the sun is always shining!"

Life can't be good forever but it certainly can't be all bad either!

I don't like our chances to progress to be honest.
I want to be optimistic but can't see where the goals are coming from
I'm guessing we will get 3 draws which won't be enough
v Germany 0-0
v Serbia 1-1
v Ghana 1-1

I see us drawing against Germany, winning one of our next two, and going through to the second round.
And I believe Spain will win the World Cup.

It can have the opposite effect sometimes. Have a look at the Warriors last year.

Who does NZ have in their group? I wish Australia and NZ were in the same group. That would be good.

if the socceroos draw against germany then they have some chance to go further. But they seem impotent in strike power. imagine if cahill was injured - what then.

**Italy
Paraguay
New Zealand
Slovakia**

I'm picking the All Whites will get one draw (1-all v Slovakia) and 3 losses. Scoring 2 goals in total.
Second point (ever) secured in a Men's Fifa Competition (1st point was in Confederations Cup last year).
THAT would be a successful World Cup for me

NZ and Aussie play a friendly in May…really looking forward to that. I hope we can get Tran Tasman clashes every year but looks like Australian Federation not interested.
Come oooon...we gotta get something like this going in Football. The League and Cricket (so far) have been great and the Bledisloe Cup is prob the ONLY rugby I'll take the slightest interest in.

Geeze that will be essential viewing

Soccer fans are hilarious - a draw is considered a good day out?

I honestly dont think Australia will win a game. It's a really tough group and the press especialy the Australian press are seriously under estimating them and over estimating the quality of the Socceroos, imo.

England v Spain final with Spain taking out the cup.

Where in my post have i said these would be good results? 😕

Can't see us beating Germany, in fact I can't see us scoring against them. Our best hope against them is a 0-0 draw. We can beat Ghana and Serbia, although I am not overly confident, I think

Germany will beat us 2-0
We will draw with Ghana 1-1
We will beat Serbia 2-1

Germany will win all it's group games
Ghana will beat Serbia
Ghana will progress on goal differential.

I just can't see us scoring enough goals to go through, apart from Cahill, who else can we rely on to score them?

From the recent Germany game, Klose should be nowhere near the nationalmannschaft , aside from that I really hope to see Kiebling,Kroos,Muller on the pitch at the same time!

Deffinately more optimistic, rather than confident this time around.

Pim seems to be more afraid of losing and we need to attack if we are to make it through the group stage. Hopefully the boys are able to put more performances like the Ireland match in this World Cup. Not only do we need everyone fit but we need some luck and someone to emerge and show something, like Kennedy and Wilkshire have done.
