Filo Basketball drama & Byron's acid induced hallucination thread

Part of the problem is that Australia is the odd man out in S/E Asia. We dwarf
most of the Asians in a sport where height matters so leads to frustration when getting lapped. We should be qualifying in an European leg.

more footage of the Oz caught on the ground being kicked etc

Luc Longley should get a bonus for clearing that pile of bodies off! From the ABC article:

Filipino coach Chot Reyes alleged after the match that Australian players had been hitting opposition players during the warm-up.

"We absolutely [deny] that," Moore said.

The BA chief acknowledged however that Australian team management had ripped up decals at their training space after players had fallen heavily, tripping over the signs.

We lost to Japan a few days earlier. Teams getting lapped in early stages of world cup qualifying is hardly a phenomenon unique to Asian basketball.

The first hit from the Filipino guy was unacceptable. I don't think it could be assessed as a strong foul. Neither player has the ball. The reaction from the Australian player whilst understandable in this context was also unacceptable. The melee that followed was a total overreaction. Participating in a stacks on with spectators and officials whilst an opponent gets hit is not on for a representative player.

Hmm… Tripping?
They said slippery yesterday

A decal to me is a sticker on the ground? You'd think slip is more believable than trip? I guess it's not a direct quote. The BA guy admitted it wasn't a wise decision to rip them up.

The Filipino hit of course unacceptable but it should have been left to the ref to sort out - a pushover response would have been sufficient to show that the Oz won't be bullied. By elbowing the Filipino's head it left the local team no choice but to re-act but should have not being done in that manner but "understandable". Filipino's are very protective even to foreigners that they become attached to.

From the interviews at the airport…

Head Coach said the practice courts were terrible. One ring was 8cm too high, decals were dangerous. Tried to get a local official to help but they kept disappearing. Only had a 2 hour session so took matters into their own hands.

Luc Longley went off script. Said their coach was to blame. Encouraged thuggish behaviour, sent player on to take cheap shots, let players take gangsta selfies. Wouldn't look LL in the eye post game. Said he wasn't supposed to leave bench but felt he had no choice but to rescue player under all those people. Said that apart from initial acts the Boomers didn't retaliate during brawl and bench kept discipline.

I missed some of the earlier player interviews but most stuck to BA script. Longley was a refreshing change!

During the warm up, a filo player tried to trip one of the Aussies who in turn pushed the wrong person, during a timeout in the match you can hear the filo coach telling his players to belt someone

Was so silly for the Aussie to react with a elbow but the way the filos carried on throwing chairs etc, they should be banned for life, now that would be a good selfie

So contraversial.

Here's another older classic for those who don't mind a sports brawl.

Do we get to play them in OZ?
The promoters will be lining up to get a shot at that one

If we did play them in oz, would be like a home game to them if held at Homebush, western Sydney is jam packed with philipinos

And that doesn't matter ?
Big Filo communities everywhere.

Always up for a laugh and some karaoke.
Good looking women too.

Let's not make the poor actions of this basketball team reflect the entire race.
