Finally a press conference Im happy with.

Usually he just bangs on about trying hard and structures and giving everyone more time. This one was finally about, its not good enough. We need to be harder, harder on each other.

You can only have 1 or 2 dummy spits a season as coach. They need to be backed up. Players need to be dropped. Hell we know who they are so I am sure the staff there know too.

Realistically you cannot drop underperforming players if they have three or four bad games. Second their salary caps, those all important structures lose there slickness and people start playing negative football to hold onto their spot.

However, after a dummy spit like today, it gives you a reason for wholesale changes. Newcastle are a bottom team. We are a bottom team. Not going north in a hurry. Make positive changes with resolution. Start your second tier salary cap now as a sounding board, there's no point saving it to cover injuries towards the finals… No finals will be played with this team this year. Make cuts, I've we turn it around but flounder later in the year due to a spent salary cap, fade out of the finals and you will have a 3rd year to pin it towards next year.

Out of this however, I did see a positive. Rankin striking of the ball was a lot cleaner and id keep him on the wing for now so he can keep the kicking duties. And-Carr will get his run at Origin. That's when his chance is to make that wing his.

When Ballin is back Robbie is going to the second row retirement, left right out of attack and tackle your guts out. Lawrence, Farah & Sue. Chris to keep running those lines... great lines.

Kevvie had a shocker. Needs to focus more on giving early ball than the show pony stuff.
Nora is running hard and is a great finisher but hasn't had good ball with momentum since the sheensie days.

Personally Id switch sides with Kev and have he and rankin on oneside and Nofa and Simona on the other. Whilst Simona is out I would move sofa to centre and put Ando - carr to his wing. When Simona is back he goes back to that side.

Tim Grants our best forward, all over woods. He stands up in to many tackles and doesn't offload anymore. If your not going to offload, go down and get a quick PTB.

Ive got more changes but realised this is turing into a positional changes rant when it was supposed to be about Taylor putting his foot down and hoping he has the gumption to follow through, Pizza boxes are going straight in the Bin boys, go to your room and have a long hard think about yourselves. When you've stopped thinking, go to the back yard and practice catching the god damn ball.

Probably starting to feel the pressure if he's starting to roast the team. But he could help himself by not picking park footballers like Milone. And if he had any guts he'd put Brooks on notice.

That was good. I saw it on the NRL site.

Taylor needs to do something about it though. He has been picking the bench poorly basically all season. I'd give Robbie strict instructions, play Cherrington on the bench even though it's probably a wasted spot and hook Robbie if he comes up with a dumb play. I think Robbie is still easily one of our best players. It's just little tweaks in his game. Still I can't wait to see him go and use his salary on a player with less flaws in the way he plays.

He also has to do something about Brooks.

I think getting the bench right in that we have some players coming in that can have an impact, getting the discipline a lot better, working out what to do with Brooks (sacking him is a big call because he has a lot of talent and can win us games) and giving Robbie a massive kick up his backside has to happen right now.

If Taylor can't get us playing well he will have to go. I'm not sure if it's all his fault but his arrogance and spin from last year hasn't put him in a good position.

Do the club have the balls to sack him if its true that they're the ones forcing these selections because of the salary cap?

Does Taylor have the balls to drop someone if his job is on the line?

the answer is - whatever is worst for the Wests Tigers is what will come to be

Can't find the press conference … Link?

Am assuming NRL.com?? I normally just view them on the Android or Apple NRL apps under the video section. Sorry about not just finding a link; on mobile.

Good post Bob. Last bit made me

I liked what he had to say but I question why we didnt prepare as a tough side all summer. I actually thought we had after 40 minutes against the Warriors but after 80 I was filthy. Same against Manly. Against the Tits we were embarrassing. That was a terrible loss against a side who did not play well themselves…then Parra....our toughest 80 minutes in years made it look like there was light at the end of the tunnel. We were pretty tough against the Sharks but not quite to their level and today we were embarrassed again in this department. Missing Sue and Woods contributed to this but when blokes go down the others are meant to lift. Rarely happens here.

I actually feel sorry for the bloke in some ways. He has guys not doing the hard yards on the field and is most likely under enormous pressure not to punish them as they might leave us....His selections seem dodgy but Id assume they are the result of selecting blokes who will give him their all. If he could transplant the attitudes of the "plodders" into some of the "stars" im sure he would.

In the 16 years of the club that is one of the most honest press conferences ive seen any coach of the tigers give.

What Taylor said in the presser was what he tried to do last year and teach these blokes how to play tough grinding football that's needed at NRL level..these overhyped overated
players didn't like it and wanted to play their own style and to their strengths,he gave them what they wanted and here we are 0/4….there's something positive to be said about Taylorball, however its to hard for these show ponies and the fans want exciting attacking football that they can't seem to deliver as well as win games, once again blame Taylor, but every time he tries to do something with this team they can't perform consistently, maybe JT would be better off going to satisfy the coach haters....then we employ another coach who will end up on the same road once he loses some games with an inept playing roster that have way to big of an ego.......JT at least for mine is having a real go at improvement within this club...There are always the people who blame him for the poor performances yet the overpaid rabble are bowed down to because of hype and juniors reputation....

When they and the JT haters wake up to themselves and realise that this is NRL and not regional village football, then don't expect anything other than the wooden spoon...

This, I honestly don't know what people expect with the roster we have, sorry, besides Teddy, it's over hyped. At least with JT I haven't seen the type of crap the players dished out as they did with Potter and Sheens, the games where it was clear as day they didn't want to play, didn't turn up and just got hammered.

I fail to see how a different coach could do anything with this group. There does need to be some personnel changes in the roster, there does need to be some tweaking in the positions, we however, don't really have the dollars to recruit from outside so are reliant on juniors.

JT does need to do something about the hooker position, our attack has stunted guys and it kinda starts with the dummy half. Some of his choices on the bench and center position replacements are mistakes, but at least we aren't seeing full on Sheens.

I do want to see how Brooks goes with Ballin, but that won't happen for some time…......do we persist or just bring in Littlejohn?..........maybe he'll gel better with Farah? maybe just bring Cherry on to play 80 minutes and see how that goes?

The halfback and hooking positions need tweaking, shifting, swapping out and we need someone else in for Simona. Would like to see Chee Kam and or Ado Carr given a go, certainly someone else over Milone. Edwards on the bench as well.

Steve - I was reading and thinking I agree with the first paragraph, the second, the third, the fourth - then I scrolled up to make sure - yep it is Steve.

Then you spoilt it with the fifth, Damn.

A good presser. Too many of the boys are playing soft and don't have the physical or mental toughness to play consistently well in the NRL.

We lack an assertive player on field to bark orders and lay into those half-assing it. Other clubs have these players whereas we just give everyone a pat on the back and say she'll be right next time mate. No, she won't be right next time mate as the same moron will make the same mistake and the team culture will accept this.

The players have to lift their standards and what they demand from each other. We can't do much about our roster at this stage, but many players are only playing at 60%. At 90-100% we can be right up there for the finals.

For once i have listened to a Press Conference of JT that really grabbed my attention and thought to myself the guy is on the money .
BUT…...shows that he really is in a loosing battle with this Squad as he gives out the strongest indications of who really is the Boss at our Club ? the players

What were the concerning things i took out of this Press Conference.....

1\. He says " where trying to play a style of Footy that doesn't can't be sustained in the NRL " and then goes onto say " where trying to finesse our way to victory in a game like that one today and we've been doing that over the last few weeks , that's not going to get us where we want to , we need to
toughen up ".
My take on this is : that he has regrettably moved away from the style of Footy he wants the team to play with his comments. It seems he has allowed the players to get there way and the result is that the fundamentals of the game have still not been teached and he needs to grow some balls and change that we can't finesse our way to victory every week.....his the Boss and players needs to know that if you don't play my way regardless if we agree or disagree with it ? Reserve Grade is your destination if you don't comply.

2\. He got asked : You allowed the guys some latitude this year basically went away from what you were doing last year , have they gone to far away from it ?
" That's been reported fairly inaccurately but we just developed things into a situation where what we are doing in our attack suits our players but that's got nothing to do with making strong decisions when the time is right ".
" At the moment we don't make strong decisions we make soft decisions that put our whole team under pressure , it's not just one or two players we've got a number of players doing it and that's why we are where we are ".
My take on this is : What he tried to implement last year and give them a bit of leeway this year.....has just gone out the window as players are just playing what they like out there and i must say i think Farah has alot to do with it as he is a self centred player always has been and always will be . I think he moves away from the attack and percentages we need to play and the players a following suit IMO.

3\. He got asked " Do you want more structure in attack and in defence " ?
" No i just want to be Tougher , it's the simplest way of putting it ". " We need to train tougher, we need to be harder on each other at training and we need to be tougher on the field ".
My take on this : This is really concerning IMO , these direct quotes from him suggest that either his to soft with them at training or they simply don't respect him as the Boss.

I must give him credit though he didn't beat around the bush and offer any excuses when asked about the 2 balls on the field....he just said " Gotta catch the ball , there's one ball that had to be caught and it needed to be caught....that's it , but we are not going to use that as excuse ".

There is some real worrying things going on at our Club and to much of this Boys Club going on i feel .

I actually feel for JT after watching this Presso i think our players don't respect him by his quotes i feel .

Toughen up Tigers! Commitment and patience to take the hard option instead of the soft option. Takes a certain type of player we seem to be lacking.

I would like to hear what he actually said to the players after the game, was it the same as he said in the press conference or did he use the press conference to talk to the players? If it was the later then that is a concern.
