Fire Fighters overrun by flames

Thanks and thoughts go out to all the firies out there battling these blazes, particularly the three injured around Bargo whilst protecting us this afternoon.

Two airlifted to hospital with severe burns and another transported with lesser injury.

Yea its horrible

The smoke over here is terrible as well, that and the heat makes being outside unbearable

They are legends. We currently have three fires burning around us in the mid-upper mountains, Katoomba is 12km west, Gosper's south front is 12km north, and Green Wattle Creek's north front is about 20-25km away.

If anyone on this forum is an RFS volunteer, thanks for your dedication to keeping us safe and protecting our homes.

I hope those injured make a speedy recovery.

Yeah, like many and probably yourself included, was expecting it to be only a matter of time before this happened in the mountains as the lack of meaningful rainfall and dry storms continues.

Well said!

Also being reported that more of these wonderful volunteers have lost their own homes today whilst protecting the assets of businesses and others. Amazing community commitment from all these girls and guys, showing such bravery in confrontation with walls of flames.

Even sadder news with two volunteer firies killed in the same fire area when their truck hit a falling fire damaged tree overnight.

Edit; even worse that they were both fathers of toddlers.

The firies do a fantastic job....thank you :+1:

I live in Tahmoor, so in the south-west and we neighbour Bargo, Buxton, Couridjah, Balmoral etc. it's like ground zero at the moment. yesterday there were cars backed up in both directions trying to evacuate until the roads were closed. there's choppers and planes flying over our head at any given moment, and the smoke haze and the red glow is so very close. the firies haven't slept in days and are doing a fantastic job, and it's a credit to them plenty of homes have been saved. we aren't in an area at this point that isn't in any serious danger, but as you guys can probably work out it can all change in a second. long summer coming up

Take care. The only thing that can be done at this point to halt the widespread devastation is rain and a good amount of it.

I am not going to get political with blame at this point and certainly not in this thread, though will make one observation. That being, that there needs to be an instant sizable injection of federal monies to further fund these efforts, with an immediate one off bonus centrelink payment similar to farmer's or fire affected ones, paid to each and every one of the volunteers. They can dot the i's and cross the t's later as the fire season has already been as long as usual, yet we are only 3 weeks into summer.

Whilst I whole heartedly agree, I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you. This type of event is a blip on the radar of a lot of pollies.

I would give the firefighters tax relief.....without them, volunteers or not, the whole bloody place would burn

Again, I agree. But for someone that doesn't earn a great deal but is knees deep in burning ash right now, it's hardly reward. Probably the wrong time and thread for a discussion such as this one.

Should have got the army/navy in not just the poor rural firefighters and voulenteers, year after you its the same old thing. Residents, wildlife, farmers, fauna continue to suffer.
This was a national disaster a week ago.

you are spot on, but the conversation has to start somewhere.

I am rusted on lib....but morrison's response to all this has been less than deserving of these brave people giving up everything to protect others.

I'm of the opposite persuasion, but would feel just as filthy had it been one of the lefts "fearless" leaders. It sickens me when people (pollies in particular) are so uncaring. Those bastards themselves should don the aparatus and walk into the flames to get a taste of what the volunteers are up against.

people always used to bag tony abbott for just about everything he did, but fair play to him he jumped on the front lines with everyone else to fight fires.....

goes to show some things should transcend political whinings and arguments
