Gotta feel for the bloke ...
What’s Fitzgibbon ever done ?

Very shabby organisation the guy has taken a pretty average team to 2 finals series...obviously the players did not like him .

I keep reading that Morris took an "average team" to the finals. That "pretty average team" made the finals 6 of the 7 years before he took over including winning the comp in 2016. In the two years that Morris took them tot he finals, both times they lost and were out first week.

To be fair they have had serious injuries and departures. I think he has done well . The decision from what I have heard is not about Morris.

Hasn't he been removed immediately?

I'm not sure but I expected him to be treated better. Isn't he a Maitland boy?

That is a shocking decision.

There must be something we aren't aware of, or something political. Definitely a football mind hasn't made this decision.

There is more it's about perception.

POssibly, but the narrative is that he took an average team on and got them to the semis. He took over a successful team and they got worse.

Could be wrong but he's had to put up with awful signings like Dugan/Fifita on major contracts, Josh and Brett Morris leaving, Gallen retiring. John Morris hasn't set the world on fire but he's developing well as a coach. Maybe if Flanagan was available and they booted Bomber for him, that'd be fair.

No worries, Im sure Morris is a lovely guy (that seems to be what all the fuss is about and supposedly good with the players) but lets judge him by the same parameters that Madge is judged by. He took over less than 2 years after winning the comp, hadnt missed the finals for years. He has never won a finals game.

Lost players through retirement etc. What players has John Morris attracted to the club to replace these players? What is there to suggest they are on the improve? They have clearly been sliding since Flanagan and Morris has not been able to do anything to stop the rot.

Morris is Cronullas Mick Potter.

Again....lovely bloke. Why is he "developing well" as a coach? On what metric? Everything has gone backwards since taking over. Lost players....who did he attract to the club? Who did he replace them with? Compare Morris recruitment to Madge (who gets crucified here for it).

Awful signings like Fifita? Fifita was ON FIRE at the Sharks, got them to a GF. Was probably the best prop in the world at the time. Was Morris able to get the best out of him or has he declined over the last 2.5years?

On saying that though on the announcement just released, I don't think he immediately got the sack, has just been stood down effective immediately. I don't think I'd want to stay somewhere if I know i'm not being renewed. Unlucky for John Morris because I think he's done a fairly good job. But at the same time I can see Fitzy and Ciraldo succeeding.

He managed a difficult period well. When he started he was only ever viewed as an interim option. He is a figure the NRL cannot afford to lose.

I agree he managed taht period well, I agree he seems a great bloke.

I see not tangible evidence that he is particularly good at the job and specifically in all the areas that Madge gets crucified in, Morris is measurably worse.

id have no problem with him at the Tigers in an assistant role. The bloke seems a great bloke and has had some experience plus he was an ex Tiger. Mind you I think the list of clubs he hasnt been at would be shorter than the one he was at. IMO his abilities as a head coach are inflated for a heap of "feel good" reasons that simply dont stand up to scrutiny.

John Morris has walked away after Sharks announce Fitzgibbon as their 2022 coach

POssibly, but the narrative is that he took an average team on and got them to the semis. He took over a successful team and they got worse.

Could be wrong but he's had to put up with awful signings like Dugan/Fifita on major contracts, Josh and Brett Morris leaving, Gallen retiring. John Morris hasn't set the world on fire but ***he's developing well as a coach***. Maybe if Flanagan was available and they booted Bomber for him, that'd be fair.

Again....lovely bloke. Why is he "developing well" as a coach? On what metric? Everything has gone backwards since taking over. Lost players....who did he attract to the club? Who did he replace them with? Compare Morris recruitment to Madge (who gets crucified here for it).

***He managed a difficult period well***.

Morris doesn't have Maguire's experience but I believe the football he had the Sharks playing is far better than Maguire has WTs' playing.

Get him into the organisation Lee, even as an assistant may even help bring a few good players with him. He knows our club won't cost the world.

Adapted to a modern style, Madge hasn't moved foward with the modern game.
