Fishing Thread

Spent 3 decades surfing the ocean at what turned out to be the safest time, the amount of shark attacks in the last ten years is scary especially when Ballina had one after the other.

Only close encounter I had was at Cresent Head at a spot called Racecourse headland.
I love Crescent but get away from the crowd round at racecourse on a good day....superb!

Crescent is a great place, so many terrific beaches south of town, but that day surfing the right hander off the point at the south end when a large shark fin appeared and submerged in cloudy water, we couldn't get out of the water quick enough the old jaws music was ringing in our heads.

Took some cuts to get out quickly on the side of the break, it didn't surface again to our surprise, but we weren't hanging around for a 2nd look.

So do I. Standing on the beach alone most of the time with the rod in winter with the sun going down, the occasional sea eagle or whale on the odd occasion is great.
I once saw a T shirt with the words; Theres a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot. Or something like that. It resonated with me immediately.

If fishing the beach for bream I have found that the best spot is where sand meets a rocky out crop, always some action there.
i bow to your knowledge of fishing , but thats 1 for the kiddies. Old Rosie used aniseed lollies for bait
Gets a bit bleak here ,Rosie great friend moved to the other side of Australia because she saw her end was near. Her son died 16 yrs later , punch line is 60 people packed into punts as his best mate sprinkled his ashes on his favorite Jewy spot that he wouldn't divulge ,he was the best handliner in the district ,his only advise was ,ya gotta put in the time its a big river
