Thought id start a thread about urban myths. Wanted people to list theres

1\. This one irks me for no reason whatsoever. But I always here how Cooper Cronk and DCE were diamonds in the rough that were picked from obscurity to defy the odds and succeed in the NRL. This is so not true. Cooper Cronk was the best rugby player in the country, signed to the storm for huge dollars, went virtually straight to first grade won Dally M half in his second full year, played for Aus in his 3rd. He was always a star. DCE was a very dominate under age player, although it is true the broncos didn't pick him, and went with Hunt, they would have loved to pick both, but it was the first or second year of the anti-stock piling rules. He ended up at Manly was the best player in NYC, Had a year in QLD cup where he won the comp, was about the best player before going on to first grade. They were both always awesome and had a typical run to first grade like any other star kid. Such a myth
2\. I heard this about a million times, from heaps of blokes, Back in [insert country town] there is a bloke as good as [insert current star in same position] that doesnt want to come to town, Im sure there is a few out there that probably could kill it in the NRL given a chance.
3\. For every player that makes it, locals from that age group always say there was a kid better in that comp

loads more….urban legends are the stuff that makes pub footy talk great!

I heard a former Wests Tigers front rower has a thing for transvestites and regularly takes one home.

Robbie & Benji have never been friends and have been jealous of each other for a long time causing a breakdown within the team and pushing Benji out.

Jamie Soward was unliked at the dragons and had no friends within the playing group.

i've heard around that one of our players thinks he is better than everyone else.
He will talk behind your back to others so that others will dislike you as well
but lately i also heard that he settled down now under a new coach.
We think we know that he thinks that people are onto him.
He is laying low for now.

No 3 It all comes down to hard work and commitment

If anyone would of told me Willie Carne as 16-17 year old would of played for Qld or Australia as a winger I would of offered them odds of 100 000 - 1

lets think about today and tomorrow
yesterday can't help us
unless you've learnt something from it

The reason I brought this up is we have a few young blokes who fit that mould

Buchanan ,Milone ,Sue ,Ava etc

Hopefully because JT fit that same mould he can find the key to get this best out of the players who have the right mentality to make it , not the most talented

Agree, you have to be very talented, work very hard and even still you need luck in running!

Milone and Buchannan have gone through the system as top junior, Milone played Aus Schools and Buchannan played in alot of rep teams as well.

Taylor is renowned as a great developer of young talent, hopefully he can nurture it through, cause we are jam packed of it!

We must have 20 Aus Schoolboys in the system

What about that urban legend of an NRL demolition crew? Many houses have trained down already this year.

I got a PM last yr from someone on here telling me that 2 high profile players were in a homosexual relationship.

3\. For every player that makes it, locals from that age group always say there was a kid better in that comp

Very common imo

I heard that when DCE was in QLD Cup, Manly had the choice to keep him or Hodkinson. That is why Hodkinson was let go after a good debut season, because they banked on DCE.

I've heard heaps of stuff about players dodgy off-field habits, but I'd imagine I need to avoid saying what I've heard, as it's totally slanderous.

Haha I know a former wests Tigers winger/ utility who I can only assume enjoys the same fetish as I saw them kissing in a porn shop at the cross, he was horrified when I said hello to him

That Ellery Hanley had a blinder every game in 88 for Balmain. Actually in the semi vs Cronulla he had an off day, despite scoring a try. Mossop even mentions in commentary he has had an unhappy day.

That Steve Jackson won the game for Canberra in 89 GF. Actually Raiders had already kicked a field goal in extra time and would have won anyway.

That Brett Mullins was a great fullback of the 90's. Actually good for 2 years max and Tim Brasher was far superior
