Former NSW coach Phil Gould attacks Blues culture after 10th series loss in 11 years

One thing for Gould to say they have to give the control of the team to the spine and take it out of the hands of a few old hard heads, but the bottom line we have never had the quality in the halves to give them the keys to the car.

I think Gallen,Farah and a couple of others have gone on a season to long but as Chris said they do not pick the team. The Blues keep getting beaten because they are up against one of the best spines to ever run around.

I think we don't have a quality spine and that is the predominant issue. Thurston killed us last night. He was great.

I think Gallen and Farah played great footy.

Tedesco should be there. I think Adam Reynolds went okay and I'd probably keep him. We need a better 6 though. Maybe Moylan can play there or maybe Jack Bird can. We need to change the spine though.

Phil Gould has called out the NSW leadership group, pretty much saying their selfishness has cost us the chance to have won more series. While he didnt name names, everybody knows he is referring to Gallen, Farah and Bird. This could be a blessing in disguise for us, with Farah most likely playing his last origin. With no origin next year, Farah playing in England next year seems more and more likely.

Quite the opposite…its seems the more criticism that comes Farah's way the more stubborn he becomes

There was talk that Farah wants to stay another year in the NRL because he would take over as captain after Gallen retired. The fact we have already lost the series should spell the end of Farah in origin and hopefully off to super league next year. But you might be right lol.

Considering Farah has been in NSW top 5 in every game he has played bar his debut you couldn't be more wrong in your assessment that he was the problem.

Phil Gould is a reactionist commentator. He delivers his nuggets of wisdom after the events have occurred then says he knew that would be the case all along.

His diatribe after the game last night was hillarious. It smacked of a petulant sook stomping his feet because he didn't get his own way yet again. I'm not saying he is wrong, but with 10 minutes to go he was shouting that the blues were coming home for the win. His speech post game was going to be very different. Kind of like it is every year after NSW scrapes in for a win…he tells us QLD are old and tired and that the blues will easily clinch the series.

Joey's response was more real. He too looked angry but that was mixed with sadness and dejection. He also didn't claim to have the answers. There really isn't any.

game 1 was the worst i've ever seen queensland play. their balls never hit the mark, plenty of balls on the ground but defensively they were sound.

nsw bashed the crap out of qld in game 2\. but as usual, smith controlled the pace of the game. slowed it down when needed and took the momentum away from nsw. the difference is easily smith and thurston. nsw has no answers for them and never will.

the other massive nsw problem is the coaching. idk if there were any set plays but there hasn't been one good set play nsw has done for as long as i remember. it's always been individualistic hayne, dugan, jennings tries.

it doesn't matter if nsw have all the possession and field position, the spine just doesn't combine well enough. 2nd man plays will never work against qld, one inside outside play isn't gonna work. there needs to be plenty of bodies in motion and quick hands. seems like all they practice at training is running hard but no point gaining field position if you dont devise plays to take advantage of it.

i never said he was the problem , i just repeated what Gould said. Im sure he knows more than us what goes on behind the scenes in the nsw team. Further To that Daley came out and said game 3 would be the last SOO game for a few of the players i.e. gallen, farah, woods and probably even jennings. my point was that if he has fallen out of favour from NSW , its probably the last hurdle overcome that was stopping him going to england next year.

The one constant over NSW's decade of failure is Bozo Fulton.

Yet he never cops a word of criticism in the media, and is never held to account for his dismal record.

He needs to be the first to be shown the door, and have it firmly slammed behind him.

Individually, Farah did play well and has been one of NSW best in most recent games. Is this a sign of his quality, or the lack of quality around him making him look good because he is simply doing the job?

Gallen also plays well but the structure is terrible. For years now, he kills momentum when NSW are on the front foot. He just seems to get the ball at the wrong time way too often and it's a club football 'settling' play that is something we need to get rid of!

I quite like the idea of Jack Bird at #6, but as he is more a running half we really need a ball-playing #7 to make it work. And might need some creativity from the #9 if Bird does take the #6 (which would play into Farah's hands).

Moylan at #6? Not sure about that, I like Birds size and toughness there but it woyuld open the door for Tedesco to come in at the back.

Bottom line is NSW need to try something because what they've had so far has not been good enough. Daley and Bozo both need to go for sure. Daley's coaching record is abysmal and as others have said, Fulton has passed his use-by.

Maybe…although there is also the hurdle of that pesky $900k contract he has for 2017 :unamused:

This is 100% correct.

Said all along while Daly and Fulton are there …. Success will be limited ... They should be the first to go then the has beens like Gallen, Bird, Farah and Jennings .... Needs a complete refresh from top to bottom.

I thought Woods has been pretty good this series so far

Teddy needs to be brought in as fullback. Moylan in my opinion is not Origin ready yet.
Didn't run the ball much. Kept passing the ball to the winger. Reminded me of Moltzen.

Absolutely. Robbie tried his heart out. Wish some others did too.

To have any measure of success. Daly and Fulton out - that is a given.

Chop the older dead wood e.g. Gallen, Bird and Farah.
Chop the players that have been found to, not be good enough e.g. Jennings, Walker, Ferguson and Fifita.

I would play a team similar to below for Game 3 and assess where these players are at with the view of selections for Game One in 2017\. We have to look to the future with younger legs, more ability and once we get the mix right - stick with them. The team below are all under 26 except for Morris and Maloney (these two hopefully would keep control of Thurston and Inglis), they would need to be replaced by a five eighth ( Moylan, Bird etc. in the next couple of years) and Morris would need to be replaced by a younger centre (Croker or ?).

In for Game 3

1\. James Tedesco (23)
2\. Joshua Mansour (26)
3\. Joshua Dugan (26)
4\. Joshua Morris (29), or Jarrod Croker (25) or similar
5\. Tom Trbojevic (19)
6\. James Maloney (30)
7\. Adam Reynolds (25)
8\. Aaron Woods (25)
9\. Nathan Peats (25)
10\. David Klemmer (22)
11\. Boyd Cordner (24)
12\. Tyson Frizell (24)
13\. Joshua Jackson (25)

14\. Ryan James (24)
15\. Bryce Cartwright (21)
16\. Wade Graham (25)
17\. Matt Moylan (25) or Jack Bird (21)

Thoughts????

Have taken Curtis Rhona out as he is an NZer.
