Forward Pack Discussion

I share your concerns, especially as he has shown a heart the size of a pea at times and floats in and out of games - demonstrating a clear lack of commitment. However, as we didn't bite the bullet and buy in a FG ready/experienced 13 to do the job he is probably the best we have (unless Benji has identified a young bloke and has him hiding in the car park during the open trainign sessions).

Outside of Latu who IMO is on the top 5 in the competition at playing straight and digging into the line before promoting the ball, Sione has impressed me the most when he has done it on occasions. I would be looking to start him at 13 if Hunt and Bunty have earned spots in the 17. Latu can come off the bench and continue it on. Although I'd rather Latu at 7 so we can have him on for 80 minutes, body permitting of course, but it appears AD will be 7

If AD is to be a 13 he should have been training there all off season. Different body type; different fitness level etc. This is a professional team not a pub side running out after a glass of port and raw oyster as a warm up.

I said the exact same thing months ago. If the long term plan is AD at lock then he had to be preparing for that from word go. Noe of this start at 7, then a month into the season move to lock. Thats ridiculous

Mate without me being a smart arse if he's been training at 7 all off season what does that tell you.

Makes you think there's no move to lock anytime soon, it's just been the forum think tank at work hoping he moves there to improve the attack.

You have stats to back that up?

Regardless...they can all be on the field I dont mind, but i said I want one 7 for 80 mins

Comprehension
Ok settle down I must have read it wrong.
I agree the starting 7 should ideally stay as the 7 for the full 80 minutes unless injured or hooked for playing poorly.
As for stats, no I don’t believe stats tell the full story so I don’t take much notice of them.

The onus is on Doueihi, he plays well and we win more than our fair share of games and he stays at 7.
If he doesn’t play well and we are not winning enough games he gets booted out of 7.

Still no guarantee he ends up at lock, the interviews he gave through the summer he looked to have lightened off not stacked muscle on for an imminent move, cameras angles on TV can be deceiving though.

IMO Benji is doing our attack a lot of harm not establishing a ball playing lock to help our halves. I actually dont care who chooses, but he has time choose someone. and train them there in that role. Guys like Pole and Twal just cant play 13, well not the type of 13 we require anyway. The best at it is Latu, but he is also our best 7 and you dont want him being banged up the middle so young. Other options that have shown the skill to possibly get there are Sione, Doueihi and Seyfarth. Just pick one of them Benji and train them in that role. This 3rd front over crap is killing us.

I said in here before I think Tommy Talua would make a great 13 for the Roosters and would have loved to get him back to play 13 for us

He's big fast for his size play 6 for Australia good hands and can tackle

I agree that the writing is on the wall, at least for the start of the season. The issue is that there is now talk of Latu being fit and rotating halves and 13s. That is BS - we need to pick and stick until the experiment is proven one way or the other.

I trust that the AD crew and Benji have got it right and AD is the best 7 we have; however, I don't think that King Sirro or I will have that feeling of comfort that others have with AD at 7 until he has demonstrated consistency.

AD; a game winner? He can be. Disinterested? Can also be, and usually in the same game. We can't afford that in a 7.

He has shown that he can pull a game or two out of his bum with 7 on his back, when he feels like it. If he can be consistent I will change my perspective; however, up until now the only consistent thread to ADs performances has been his inconsistency.

I am yet to be convinced but AD has my support to be the best he can be in the positon. He had better bloody deliver or Benji and a big swathe of the forum will be eating straw hats.

Any chance Roberts or Geyer are smoky for a lock spot or bench spot

I think it comes from Benji saying that Latu is a long term 7 but he will be patient with him. So that makes it seem moving AD will be on the cards at some stage and probably depends on Latu and how he performs more than anything else.

Eating straw hats lol, remember what I said about being prepared, in reality we are all just speculating what's best for the team with all our different opinions.

But we won't know for sure what's going through Benji's mind for lineups until we get a look at the trials, just hope he gets it right, you've seen the meltdown on here when there's failure.

Yes, Benji's said that on more than one occasion, but it may not happen as soon as everyone is hoping, if he has another setback, it could be delayed to the back half of the season we have seen his injury woes so far, praying it takes a U turn.

when fit latu is too good of a halves player to be playing 14 or lock.
some club will come knocking like perth they can negotiate eith him from November 2026 for 2028
