Surely everyone realises there's zero chance of any more money being spent on stadiums in the current climate? Nrl has zero bargaining power. The government has other priorities for the foreseeable future, and rightfully so!

The NRL has the Grand Final and a deal with the state government as bargaining power, I believe they will get 2 maybe 3 of these stadiums.

Not trying to start a Forum meltdown , but is it worth putting money into Leichhardt if you can't fix the issues of easy transport to and from games

Transport is not an issue to Leichhardt. Buses and Light rail very close.

The new Leichhardt oval
Incorporating a rowing club for access and a Marina built off to the side to bring the rich and famous $$$
There could also be a hall of fame for Rugby league and Rowing
A restaurant and bar precinct
Remove the hill at Leichhardt oval and place it opposite the main stadium
Imagine this stadium on the bay
It would be world class

It could be used by many sporting clubs but only one NRL club
The Wests Tigers

No good - no parking.

good incentive to retake up kayaking :joy:

Wasnt there talk from the govt about a $3bill infrastructure program? Any type of construction would mean jobs.

Keynesian economics - create demand in the economy through expansionary fiscal policy eg giving the NSW nurses, doctors, paramedics a pay rise will see that money spent into the economy creating demand and new jobs in say the retail and other sectors.

So the government cries out in the media that the country, and state, are in crisis and need to urgently rebuild but are being held to ransom by the nrl so that manly can get a new ground built for free
Who do you think is going to win that pr battle? The state trying to invest in rebuilding via education, helping companies keep their staff etc or the greedy billion dollar sport trying to get free local grounds for small suburban clubs that are home to a dozen games a year.

The nrl will get nothing. And rightfully so. Maybe in a few years time, but nothing in the foreseeable future

Well not exactly. NSW Govt has reneged on the stadia deal under which NRL bound the Grand Final to Sydney for the next...ages, something like 20 years. That allows NRL to renegotiate, or at least pressure NSW Govt for compensation. There's definitely leverage.

Whether or not it's a good PR battle is not the point, because NRL can avoid the PR issue by simply taking the GF out to tender and acknowledging the lack of NSW funds.

Also I don't frankly think the NSW Govt can take the high ground on spending when they are still going ahead with the Powerhouse Museum relocation, which I cannot by any mechanism identify as mandatory or essential spending. $1.1B I believe is the cost? Be consistent and dump the ANZ refurb and Powerhouse move both. In contrast there is a clear rationale to leave the roads and public transport plans fully-funded.

The Sharks have just made a statement that they will
not be playing anywhere but Shark park when completed .. will not be waiting for the fence sitters at the Tigers making any statement any time soon !

You do understand about job creation? Infrastructure is one of the key components of rebuilding the economy.

The problem for the next period in the economy is unemployment as people lose their jobs and businesses due to the lockdowns. The economy needs jobs, not hand outs. Those doctors nurses etc already have jobs. Every cent needs to go into new jobs.

Lets see where the sharks are told to play in the next few years

The same could be said for us. Vlandys is hellbent on having NRL back in the suburbs. A few teams might have their noses out of joint IF these stadiums get built.

Hardly suprising when you consider it is next to their leagues club

Keep going with their drug policy and cheating habits.....

And they won't be playing anywhere, not in the NRL anyway.

V'Landys ain't Toddy.

Vlandys wont be telling us where to play as we have three grounds one being parramatta
sharks have a ground that is not so called approved if we move to 4 super suburban stadiums it may not be one of them.
An example of how these types of stadiuns will not work and clubs should be able to choose

Wage increases will result in more money into the economy which creates demand and jobs especially in retail. The 2.5% increases for nurses, paramedics and doctors are offset by productivity increases or efficiency dividends so they are not handouts. The NSW Govt should have stopped the increases for fat cat public servants. Did you know the NSW Police Commissioner receives nearly twice the salary of the NY Police Commissioner? I find that obscene.

Well, they would be crazy to move when their dealers and bookkeepers are established in the shire.

So they have 26 home games
That's a bit unfair

Having a multi stadium strategy isn't "fence sitting". It's decisive, just not in the direction that some might like.

Easy statement for the Sharks to make where else would they play?

I'd say the. Sharks are locked in contractually with the developer of the precinct. There is supposedly a retail precinct near the new club including a Dan Murphy's which has restrictions on retail hours on game days. I imagine most retailers would be expecting game day retailing.
