FOX sidelining WT?

Not to start any conspiracy theories but an observation in the last week leading up to the first round, seems the Wests Tigers conspicuously absent from much of Fox Sports marketing.

Case in point, the opening of NRL 360 yesterday where Matt Nable spruiks all the games of the weekend, he showcases players from every team and game with visuals and specific player names from each team EXCEPT when it came to the tigers game where he stands in front of the Raiders team and the only image of the WT is a split second grab of us in defence is a segment cleary showcasing Papalli. Not even our full name is mentioned, just Tigers.

Similarly, in the NRL launch trailer we are hardly seen... Now is this simply bias from my tiger coloured eyes or are we overlooked, disregarded this year for some reason? And what is that reason? Is it simply that the Sunday game is a channel 9 game? If we have such a large fan base nation wide with TV stats backing that up, why are we ignored in marketing? Surely that would only hurt the NRL. So what's going on?

I think you’re onto something with the channel 9 game stuff . They don’t want to showcase another channels product . Plus , it’s been very clear for a while news limited are generally shutout from the tigers , outside of obligated media scrums , as per NRL directive . We don’t give 1 on 1s , we give next to no access at all. So they turn the blow torch on us . Meh , it’s hardly constructive anyway from fox . We have gained far more in the last couple of years since we shut them out , then what we have given up . It’s not like they weren’t throwing us under the bus at every turn when they had access.

I understand as Tigers fans it is frustrating to see media put us down and its is easy to sometimes take it personally.

But we are a strange breed being here discussing every improvement or recruitment/retention with forensic detail. We can see the improvements, we see how all of the pieces are coming together. Its not reasonable to expect the casual league fan to know how this is happening.

Either we are wrong, or they are, ultimately between 18-30 men in black, gold & white will decide.

Hmm . I dunno man . It’s not like we have come last , or even been anywhere near that conversation , outside of the annual week 1 spoon predictions . Which I have to say , if you are predicting the tigers for the spoon , you have no idea about football . That’s not to say , it won’t happen , but rather there’s no way any person who is paid to study and give analytical responses to all rugby league , can say that with a straight face .

I agree with you wrt the spoon, but the average punter or drunk journalist doesnt know Blore, Musgrove, Stefano, etc etc.

To be honest WE dont really know about AD @ 6, Laurie @ 1, the hookers

I think almost half our games this year are FTA so Fox are probably better off marketing the other teams. It would be interesting to see how much coverage they give Broncos/Rabbits as well.

We don't deserve any coverage. We've sucked for 10 years and are lucky to have gotten the coverage we did.

Yet we are still one of the biggest clubs, re: membership, go figure?
Don’t think it has anything to do with “deserve” they should be a neutral broadcaster.

I love the team but that's how a lot of people view us and quite frankly, not being in the top 50% for a decade, there's not much we can say.

For the record, Fox don't need to promote us. We have a huge fanbase and smaller teams would benefit a lot more from promotion than we would.

The 'woe is us' threads have started early this year.

Lol I read today we have 13 channel 9 games . Might account for the lack of care factor given by fox , as we arnt going to be playing on it half the time .

If I wanted to be politically incorrect, I'd say that the foxsorts are better than the foxblokes.

Your probably right, yet no thread on how we are one of the favoured clubs of the NRL getting favouritism by getting FTA games. Strange...

Great for the sponsors and club.

FoxSports office at Artarmon is a 5 minute walk from my work. After my morning coffee tomorrow I'll head down to their carpark and start letting down tyres...
