With a premiership medal and a second Junior Kangaroos jersey in the trophy cabinet, Jacob Miller is focused on his next goal – the number 7 NRL Wests Tigers jumper.

Miller returned to training last week but off-season hernia surgery saw him resigned to limited duties at the team’s Wyong base.

“The surgeon says it should take about three weeks to heal before I can re-commence full training. I just did a little bit of work in camp but I’m itching to go again,’’ Miller said.

"Having had a small taste of the NRL over the past two seasons, Miller is determined to impress new Coach Mick Potter over summer.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of trying to cement a spot in the NRL side,’’ Miller said.

“There is a fresh opportunity for me under Mick. I plan to work really hard over summer and want to learn more from the senior players in Benji Marshall and Braith Anasta. The hard work starts now.”

Now ineligible for the NYC, Miller is confident Wests Tigers will again be a strong force as they defend their title under premiership winning coach Todd Payten.

“There is plenty of talent there in the players backing up from the grand final side in Kurtis Rowe, David Nofoaluma, Matt Mulcahy, Manaia Rudolph, Brendan Santi, Kyle Lovett, and Nathan Brown,’’ Miller stated.

“You also have the likes of Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses, and Manaia Cherrington who were members of the premiership winning Balmain SG Ball team.

“These boys are already training with the NRL squad so it just goes to show how much talent there is coming through at the Club.”

Good luck to him….been so long since weve had a good capable competent genuine halfback, that in itself has me keen for next year...how good would it be???
Hopefully hes in the 7 for a long long time

He's got the skill level, if he trains hard and gets the chance, I just hope he's able to cement his spot in the top side. We desperately need some stability in the halves next season, and it starts by playing a true halfback in the 7 jersey.

We have never had a stable halfback, has the ingredients for a long Tigers Career if he proves he's worth only 20 years old.
Potentially for the next 12 years don't have to worry about a halfback

x 2 … he needs to be given a go with the same degree of faith that maguire gave adam reynolds and the kid thrived. miller has the game and ability to succeed in f/g

Seems like the planets have aligned for Miller and WT. Miller seems to be getting his head right, had a solid season and with a new coach he's got every chance of being our long-term halfback if he wants the job.

Just what we needed was a coach to have the patience to nuture a young No. 7, hopefully Jacob will have no ill effects from his hernia surgery, I'm unfamiliar with what such an operation entails, I gather it's not too invasive?.

Rather than hear about everyone elses hernia ops….heres what was said about the bloke in question:
“The surgeon says it should take about three weeks to heal before I can re-commence full training. I just did a little bit of work in camp but I’m itching to go again,’’ Miller said.

There is so much hype and pressure around any young 7 these days, however miller seems to have more then most. You would think playing alongside benji and Robbie would be the perfect introduction into first grade, for whatever reason it seemed to be made difficult the last couple of years.

To me miller seems like a guy that likes the pressure and limelight, he is a very cheeky and confident kid, which tend to be good qualities for halfbacks. He has the skill and the onfield toughness to make it and now appears to have a coach that believes in him. Hopefully 2013 is his breakthrough year.

I just hope he doesn't turn out to be another Tim Smith. Promised the world but never really cut it. He certainly does have potential but needs to become more involved. This is his big chance anyway. I hope he grabs it with both hands and like you all say, becomes our long term, solid half back!

Well it looks like he is here to stay , which is good

If he is going to be the 7 we are pinning our hopes on for the future we need to get him signed up asap and back him up with our fullest confidence

Could not agree more, also good to see he didn't have a shot at Sheens, which he has every right to do,he seems to have grown a lot.

miller at 7, benji at 6… for that to happen, miller isn't the problem, benji is. he will have to let miller take control of the ruck, control of the general play... he will have to play second fiddle to miller, sometimes learn from him as well. hopefully benj's ego doesn't get in the way

Well if the new crop of 20s like Brooks and Moses perform, Miller certainly doesn't have a better time to cement his spot than now. Hopefully opportunity at the top and pressure from beneath conspire to produce his best performances.
