It’s a strong looking pack for the future. Will be useless if we don’t improve our spine

if you compare it to a house, forwards are like foundations, you cannot build a team without them!

True , but our spine is crap .

Doohey..not a fullback
Benji ...can’t play forever
Walters ...one hit wonder
Reynolds ..Headless chook but most likely
Grant ...say goodbye
Mbye ...useless
Brooks ..hasn’t got what it takes

Well i think the policy of having a forward pack that match and dominate with key signings always had to come 1st, so a big tick there, Blore was excellent and having Packer around one more season teaching these young forwards some moungrel and not to take a backward step.

Stefano needs a Massive pre season, agree is not match fit to compare and besides not on our roster yet till 2021, see how performs next season.

Backs are biggest concerns now as noted.

Wingers - Talua is a good prospect, Nofo a good finisher, Defense???
Centres - BJ (Less brain explosions), Mybe (Defense Good offers not more)
Half/5/8 - Need better than we have currently or vast improvement
Fullback - AD safe most games, shocker last one, Good ball skils, Speed an issue unsure how you improve that seems too top heavy.

Monirovski - Back next season
New Signing - Rooster this week?

Overall if you compare Friday's games to prior seasons we do have a more competitive team and are going in the right direction.

I think grant stays if I’m honest
Stefano will be great give him time
Packer if he keeps the form is the enforce we need loved watching him in tackles with our forwards

8.Aloiai
9.Grant
10.Packer
11.Lucy
12.Garner
13.Twal

14.Mac
15.Mikaele
16.Stefano
17.Blore

A utility could be added such as grub/Mbye/Walters/benji if madge decides he doesn’t need a big bench could go either way
Great depth in the middle with the likes of
Musgrove
Clark
Huth
Seyfarth

Momo is def not a quality goalkicker , we need a consistent goalkicker

Mbye literally has the worst kicking percentage out of all 1st choice kickers across the league...
Do we even have a kicking coach? Or does he just work on it himself

Normally I don't care about players with 'potential' as I've heard it for 15 years, but Maguire seems excellent at developing forwards so I actually feel good about it this time 🙂. I'd love to see a good number 9 signing, and a genuine xfactor winger/back. Maybe a halves coach.

Stefano better have more than I saw tonight otherwise hell be wearing number 21 a lot.
No more pillows.

NB, I haven't watched him play before and understand he might be a gun.

I'll reserve judgement until he gets a few runs under his belt - bit hard for a big man who is limited to minimal minutes to be up to NRL standard.

Tigers forwards running metres
Aloiai 149
Packer 75
Leilua 80
Eisenhuth 116
Mcintyre 22
Clark 76
Blore 46
Total 564

Eels forwards running metres
RCG 236
Paulo 213
Lane 132
Nuikore 110
Matterson 10
Brown 120
Utoikamanu 42
Takarangi 14
Total 877

We could use some strike power in the backs but our forwards were not as good as theirs tonight

Edit: added Nuikore's metres

Pretty hard to chalk up running metres when you don't have the ball.

True, the forwards were also responsible for 7/8 of our penalties.

As I have said in this thread twice already, my post was in response to people saying the forwards were great, 1-7 should be replaced.

Like the pack we are building and we also appear to have depth which is required to win competitions.

What ever money is left over needs to be spend on speedy backs including a decent goal kicker.

Yes I'm cautiously optimistic, I think Blore looked so good that I was unfairly comparing them

Off season goal kicking practice under Brett Hodson or Daryl Halligan may sharpen him up

But wait most say the pack is ok ... my view has not changed most are plodders . The pack needs infusion that’s for sure .

Luci, Blore, McIntyre and Aloiai can hold their heads up.

Packer 4 runs 32m
Huth 8 for 55
Kepaoa 12 for 148

88 tackles made between Packer and Huth. The entire forwards pack bar Luciano was very poor, no point going specifically after Huth or Packer based on meterage. We had no ball in the first half with horrid completion rate. It's a bit hard for the starting forwards when they spend the first 20 defending, get a rest, then have to come back on and mostly defend again.

You just need to put games like this in your pocket and get back to work.
The job now is to see as to stays and who goes and build on this core group through recruitment over next 2 seasons.
However if someone thinks we can survive in this competition without a forward leader, a goal kicker, speed and a steady spine selection policy ..... is kidding themselves.

Our pack has been owned by Knights and Warriors. Still excited?
I'd like to see it boosted. Lose ET, McQueen, and either Eisenhuth or Clark and get some new blood including a big experienced front rower like James Tamou.
