Gallen may be a tiger

If a player wants to leave, it's very very hard to force them to remain at the club. I wonder if Gallen wants the shot to win a premiership? The mess the Sharks are in, seems they are very skinny odds to break their duck before 2012\. Both the Tigers & Manly are far better options in that regard.

As a point of interest, I'm almost certain that when he first signed with the club, Sheens was chasing Gallen. Would have been about 2003 and was before Gallen was a star. I remember wondering what Sheens would see him - it became pretty clear in the subsequent 5 years. It makes me think Sheens will go all out for Gallen, given the player he has become.

I would love him at the club. If we signed Gallen and with the inevitable addition of Tuqiri, we would be close to the best 1-17 in the competition with quality in all positions. It's a salivating prospect.

Cronulla forward PAUL GALLEN has admitted to having major frustrations at the Sharks, but says he will be there at training when the NRL club's players return next month.

GALLEN says the last 18 months at the Sharks have been difficult and he has been disappointed and frustrated after making personal sacrifices to be at the club.

Coming amidst speculation he wanted out of the Sharks after a second $10,000 fine this year for behavioural issues, GALLEN says he still has some outstanding concerns which he wants addressed.

He is a grub on the field, but you know he will give 100% on the park every game.

Let me think about this, aggression, good defender, a player who makes 100+meters a game and at times over 200+meters in a game, offloads, breaks the line, scores tries in a team who offers nothing in attack at all?

Sure he has a high error rate but could that because he is forced to try and generate play out of nothing as he is viewed the main attacking option? As for his penalties, they aren't that bad, Rhino gave away more last year than Gallen.

I would take him in an instant. Lets hope he doesn't want to move interstate and move back to his school days area, who knows could move in next door to Benji or Fults

my thoughts on the matter exactly ….and ill add . with gallen in our pack we would give the comp a mighty shake ....
where theres smoke theres fire ... and a little birdy has told me he has a get out clause due to third party arrangements....

Gallen to stay at Sharks

PAUL Gallen has broken his silence to assure Cronulla fans he will be on board next season, but he still plans to meet with Sharks officials to resolve his grievances.

Speaking for the first time since The Daily Telegraph revealed his management had made approaches to Manly and Wests Tigers, Gallen admitted he had been "disappointed" and "frustrated" at various periods over the past 18 months.

After being stripped of the Sharks captaincy and fined $10,000 for a racial slur in May, the Test forward was slugged a further $10,000 for public urination last week.

On top of the severity of the punishments, Gallen was also disappointed by the club's due process and certain public statements in the aftermath of both incidents.

In a statement released by the Sharks head office yesterday, the 28-year-old also expressed frustration at the club's recruitment and retention, but added this week's walkout drama had brought his issues to a head.

"It's been a difficult 18 months at the Sharks and it's fair to say I was disappointed with a few issues and the way the club handled them," Gallen said.

"I am very passionate and was frustrated at times with players leaving for various reasons and I felt the club could have supported those players and me a little better, considering a variety of personal sacrifices I have made for the club.

"Again I was disappointed to be fined (for public urination) last week, however I understand this is a new administration and after discussions with (CEO) Richard Fisk and (chairman) Damian Irvine I am in no doubt that they are working towards making changes for the better and I am looking forward to being a part of this in season 2010.

"It's been refreshing to be able to air my concerns and clear the air in a positive fashion."

Gallen's statement has ended any chance of him playing elsewhere next season, but he made no comment about the final two years of his current Sharks deal.

Although Manly coach Des Hasler distanced his club from Gallen's signature, both the Tigers and Brisbane Broncos publicly declared their future interest in poaching the aggressive back-rower at a future stage.

The Daily Telegraph also understands Gallen - Cronulla's longest-serving current star - is owed money from an outstanding third-party agreement.

But he last night declared money was not one of his grievances, which will be thrashed out more thoroughly when the team returns to training on January 11.

would not be suprised if he does move on from the sharks.
footy is a business. money talks. loyalty does not pay the bills, or ensure you are financially secure for life after footy.

Even with the 3rd party payments missing, I'm sure Gallen will get paid more at the sharks then the broncos or tigers, given the comparitive rosters. I think Gallen seems to be purely driven on loyality otherwise he would have left a long time ago, searching for a premiership.

When the club isn't loyal in return by fining you $10k for a small indiscretion, then I can understand why he would want to leave..

A small indiscretion for urinating on a guy who was sprawled out on the ground? 4th "indiscretion" now isn't it, or more? Yeah, you're right hammertime, Gallen doesn't deserve those nasty Sharkies. He should go to the bonco's with their culture of luvin' women in the toilet - they'll support him.

hahaha, it was close to a dude's head, not actually on him. So they must have been pretty gone if there was blokes rolling around on the ground. It's not good, but it's definitely not worth $10k.

I agree with you for the most part gqtiger, because his other on-field 'indescretions' (laffrachni, squirril gripping, racist slur) have been horrendous. But at the end of the day, he took a reduced offer of about $300k to stay with the sharks over manly ('07), he is still owed money from a club who has run istelf into the ground, and does the majority of their work on the field. He is loyal. If he can let those issues go to stay a 1-club man, then the sharkies should at least fine him appropriately to fit the crime.

Guess we won't be seeing Gallen at Wests…
