Gallen may be a tiger

Obviously Sheens saw something in him on the Kangaroos tour. He didnt play alot of football in 2009 but still played all or most games in the Four Nations. In saying that, it's what we'd all hoped for when Sheens was announced Australian coach, that he'd be able to lure some of these international players our way.

Again, I know it's becoming a cliche around here, but imagine what Folkes would be able to bring out in him. He's already got the mongrel, maybe Folkes could add some technical measures to his game.
 
I dont want to go anywhere near him. i wouldnt even swap Heighno for him. Gallen is a better player, but when u throw in his grubbiness etc, i'd take Heighno…....and for me thats saying something. So no Gallen thanx.
 
BRISBANE have signalled their interest in Cronulla enforcer Paul Gallen amid speculation the Test forward is unhappy and wants out of the Sharks next season.
The Daily Telegraph reported today that Gallen was aggrieved after his latest disciplinary fine from the club last week and approaches had been made on his behalf to rival NRL clubs.

"We'd be really interested in sitting down and having a talk with him,'' Brisbane coach Ivan Henjak said. "He's the type of player who would fit into our forward pack. He'd certainly bring a bit of an aura and some presence with him.''

Brisbane fired off an email to Gallen's manger David Riolo on Tuesday saying they would like to talk to Gallen if the reports were correct. "If he is interested in coming to the Broncos, we'd be very interested in talking to him,'' said Henjak.

"I don't think his recent off-field incidents would stop any club from wanting him. In a good culture and the right environment like the Broncos, I think he would thrive. I'm sure he would be a great player here and contribute to our club but at this stage we haven't spoken to him.''

The rugged State of Origin and Test back-rower was stripped of the Sharks captaincy and fined $10,000 earlier this year over a racial slur

I'm intruguied how we have managed to fit everything under the cap this year. Possibly backloading again? Otherwise it scares me how much we were spending on Morris, payne, galea, halatau & collis. Although, we did sign a lot guys who have had injury concerns.

Sounds like most people on the forum are in unison! Would love to get him on board as long as he doesn't damage the image of the club.

Difference is IF we signed Lima, part of his contract was going to be paid for by the Storm.. If we are going to get Gallen we would be forking out the whole lot..

Dont hold your breath on Gallen..Its likely NOT to happen..

Where has this perception of Folkes as a supercoach started from. Im confused. I have never seen anything that suggests Folkes is great at teaching technical skills yet here we get another pearler. The Dogs seemed to do quite well this year under Kevin Moore - I wonder why :unamused: :unamused: Could it have anything to do with Moore's influence during the Folkes years. Surely not :wink:
 
BB ll though u are right, Stuart has the attitude if they dont want to be there.. let them go.. if in fact the story is TRUE, he is as good as a free agent

Folkes took a team to a premiership, give him some credit, it wasnt just Kevin Moore's influence behind the scenes. Folkes has a background in strength and conditioning which he is focussing on at the Tigers. Add in his experience as a past player and coach and he's a valuable asset to the team. Being in a behind the scenes role will allow him to focus on his strength and conditioning role yet add in influences as a former head coach. Gallen is a guy that is very aggressive on field and playing under the experience of Sheens and Folkes, yeah I do think that's a supercoach combination.

In reality though, it's only one newspaper article. Doubt we'll hear anything more concrete til the new year.

I think your right….but Gallen if granted a release may just want to play under Sheens....Manly although off-loading Orford also resigned a few of their Grand Final players on new deals.....they dont have much coin either.......

If you beleive the Manly daily,he is not going there,and if he doesn't want to move then we have some hope,keeps us off the Lote topic for a while though.
 
Lets be real.
He is a grub BUT what he adds few can do. Anger, Fear…players dont want to run at him. We need these guys.
he played only 16 games last yr and score 7 times (almost 50%)
He made more metres then any other tiger (130 per game)
Made 52 offloads (2 most in NRL)
 
He is a grub on the field, but you know he will give 100% on the park every game.

Let me think about this, aggression, good defender, a player who makes 100+meters a game and at times over 200+meters in a game, offloads, breaks the line, scores tries in a team who offers nothing in attack at all?

Sure he has a high error rate but could that because he is forced to try and generate play out of nothing as he is viewed the main attacking option? As for his penalties, they aren't that bad, Rhino gave away more last year than Gallen.

I would take him in an instant. Lets hope he doesn't want to move interstate and move back to his school days area, who knows could move in next door to Benji or Fults

Absolutely… This is the benefit of have the Australian coach as your club coach. It gives the club an opportunity to open the door to players who want to play for Australia.

Sure the guy is a bit of a grub but if Sheens and co have managed to keep AJ's nose clean for the year, why wouldn't they be able to do the same for Gallen. The guy is a workhorse and since he'll be playing for a club where he won't be the only attacking option, his error rate and effectiveness will improve.

The guy is a grub, but he bleeds the game, and thats what we need. What I worry about is the players we might have to offload to offer Gallen a contract, even a backloaded one...

I'm pretty sure gallen went to parramatta marist brothers. Is that what you mean?
 
I think if we can afford him, take him. If he is bad and it doesn't work out show him the door.

He brings to much to the table for us to ignore. Just the fact that he wants to come to us is enough for me.
 
I would give odds of about 100/1(based on our past recruitment, cap restrictions, competition in manly and broncos, and the fact that the Sharks are extremely unlikely to release a plyer of his calibre).

However, the positive is that we were mentioned as a possibility. Never usually happens.
