NSW won’t take injured prop Aaron Woods into the State of Origin series opener unless he can get some football under his belt before then, according to Blues skipper Paul Gallen.

Woods is racing the clock to recover from an ankle injury in order to be fit for Origin I at ANZ Stadium on June 1.

He is scheduled to return somewhere between rounds 11 and 13 and Gallen said he would likely have to return for the Tigers’ round 11 clash against Newcastle to come into consideration.

Laurie Daley will name his game one side after that round and Gallen said the coach had a standing requirement that any player needed to return to the field before they could be considered.

“Just going on what I went through last year, missing game one, Laurie said he couldn’t pick me without a game under my belt,” Gallen told Triple M.

“You never know but I’d be surprised if (Woods) was picked without a game under his belt … Which means he’s got to be back in about four weeks so fingers crossed he can get that done.”

Gallen said in-form Cronulla teammate Andrew Fifita, who was dropped during last year’s series, shaped as a replacement for Woods.

Well I guess. Gallen is the expert on missing Club games then playing Origin….

All that's needed now is Robbie to come out and endorse his comments...

I would laugh if Gallen got left out of the squad, the tool thinks he is an automatic must-have in the team.
Fifita should be on the bench, Klemmer to start with Tamou.

Daley said in an interview last week that Gallen and Farah were definate selections.

Gallen now Captain Coach of NSW

We are definitely on Sabre for the Avatar challenge

Never been so confident , and here I was thinking that NSW couldn't find a worse coach than Super Snoz Loz

Bigmouth talking down Woods so he can promote his buddy Fifita.

Please Gallen, worry about your own game, You are passed SOO methinks.

None of NSW's players are good enough to be considered a guaranteed player. Few should be from either state. That would be the Johns', Lockyers, Fittlers etc.

Complacency is half of the blues problem.

Gal has had massive injury issues in recent years. Woodsy hasn't. Fair enough the injury plagued player prove themselves fit first. If Woodsy is injured still, he won't get picked… If he passes a fitness test he'll play, regardless of when his last game for us was.

Well he is the captain.

I think that is a fair call for any player, having a game before being picked for origin, don't want the player pulling up lame early in an origin game.

And that is why the blues gave such a good record of late, fool.

In an age of gambling on NRL, why is Gallen allowed to comment on commercial radio while he is contracted to an NRL club? Add to that Cameron Smith and others on FOX Sports. And, don't get me started on the free pitch Manly get each Sunday morning on Big Sports Breakfast with the input of Peter Peters! Why are these inequities allowed to happen?

It's just amazing that he has the audacity to comment on selections. He might be the captain, but he's not the selector or coach. His job starts when the team is picked surely.

I wouldnt mind if Woods misses out, and his replacement did too well to be dropped when he was fit. He needs to stoke the fire in his belly a bit, and we may see him lift because of it.

I don't get your point?

Of course he wants Fifita and he also wants Ennis instead of Robbie. Gallen = Grub.
An overrated one at that. Grrrrr can't stand him.
