Galloway keen to carry on consistency

Despite playing a vital role in Wests Tigers’ strong start to the 2014 season, Keith Galloway’s more than fine with the attention falling on other people’s shoulders — leaving him free to concentrate on doing what he does best on the field.

Having played over 170 games of first-grade across 11 seasons in the NRL, Galloway’s certainly seen both success and disappointment before, and knows that the Club's strong performances of late are down to the team playing well together, as a team.

“Yeah, that’s it, mate,” he said at this morning’s press conference after training. “We’re playing well together and that’s showing on the field.

“ It’s not about one guy doing everything — we’re going good together as a team and we’ll try and keep that going this weekend.”

Despite only playing five of the Club’s six games so far this year, Galloway currently sits second in the team (behind fellow front-row partner Aaron Woods) for total hitups — averaging more than 10 hit-ups per game and an imposing 10m per carry.

And while it’s the Club’s bench that might have plenty of people talking so far this season, it’s been that duo that’s laid the platform for the Club’s backs and halves combinations to cause havoc for opposing teams in the past few weeks.

“I thought we [as a team] were really strong against the Cowboys on the weekend," he said.

"They’re a good team with a number of good forwards, so it was good to go up against them and test where we’re at right now.

“Parramatta will be a good test for us too.

"They’ve been going well and did real well against the Roosters up front so it’ll be a great grind in the middle. Timmy Mannah, Fui [Fui Moi Moi]… those are good players and it’ll be another great test for us against them on Monday.”

Can't believe there are actually people who think Galloway shouldn't be in the side. Averaging 10m per carry is great.

Can't believe people think he is still ineffective.

The whole pack is feeding off each other this year. They know as a whole they have a lot of venom and that's spurning on the workhorses like Galloway and Woods.

Damn I am love having a big set of nasty pigs…..it has dead set been 20 years since i was licking my lips at the thought of us really giving it to someone,

You grotty grotty man lol.

The best I have seen Keith play. Galloway and Woods are leading the way for the young tigers pack. Even Blair is playing very well this year. The future is bright for the West Tigers.

I acknowledge that Galloway is in good form. He seems to be better at making metres from the short pass from who ever takes it up, rather than doing that himself. But, if we rely on him to have that form week-in-and-week-out, we will be in trouble. His consistent attribute is his inconsistency. If Potter has worked out a way to get the best out of him, it's a really positive development.

I don't see it.

Barring injury I have always seen him as our most consistent forward over many years. Long before we had heard of Woods.

I agree. Always goes forward. He doesn't though bust the line and he isn't quick and explosive.

He does the job though of punching out the tough metres.

Same thing every game he plays, even when he had a crook toe, and when he gets his hands on them in defence, that is it, stopped, no more metres.

I think Keithy still has a way to go before he gets back to his best and is probably still not totally match fit. But if he can stay on the field with good men around him that allow him to concentrate on just doing his job he will steadily improve.

It could be a big year for him.
