WESTS Tigers coach Tim Sheens said should Test forward Keith Galloway pass a fitness test today he will likely be used as an impact player against Brisbane on Friday.
Hosting the Broncos at Allianz Stadium, the 26-year-old prop is set to return from a foot injury he suffered in the clubs first round victory over Cronulla.
With the club missing England second-rower Gareth Ellis with a broken foot, Galloway has been fast-tracked to return in a massive boost for the besieged club.
“I’m not going to let him play if he is not up to it,” Sheens said of Galloway.
“He might play shorter spells that that’ll be the difference.
“That’s okay he’s got plenty of impact and if we use him sparingly young Woods played 40 minutes and then the starting 20 minutes, 60 minutes straight last week which is a pretty damn good effort
“Aaron (Woods) is going very well, (Matt) Bell went well also so we’ve got a few men to support Keith, this isn’t going to be thrown back on Keith’s shoulders.”
In his second year of NRL, Aaron Woods, 21, has received a huge wrap from Sheens in stepping up to fill the void since Galloway has been out injured.
So impressed by his resolve, Sheens has tipped the rookie for an Origin birth in the near future.
“Aaron’s had his issues here and there with the officials but I think he’s playing very good football, he’s a confident kid. He’s had a great off-season, he’s trained well and he’s playing well.
“He’s in Ricky (Stuart’s) emerging NSW squad and I think he’s a kid who will play NSW whether it’s this year (or next).”
Tigers skipper Robbie Farah also returns which Sheens says will be a huge boost in helping the young forwards like Woods and Matt Groat.
“They need to have that senior player around to help ease them through the tough times,” he said.
Meanwhile Sheens has put the possibility of Willie Mason joining his roster to bed once and for all.
Having discussed a career-lifeline with the human headline, the Tigers board and sponsors opted against recruiting the forward to the club in fear of damaging their image.
Sheens says discussions have 100 percent ended.
“The Willie Mason thing is dead and buried,” he said.
“I made that comment a few weeks ago, I don’t know where that’s coming from.”
The Tigers have won only one of their five games so far this season and sit 14th above the Gold Coast and Parramatta on the competition ladder.
