Galvin given a rest as the club tries to keep him at Concord with a fresh deal. - SMH piece.

It's about money - currently he is signed for 3 years on a good deal financially for us, he wants a release to sign a new deal reflecting his nrl future star status. We hold the cards because we can pay him more for the next 2.5 yrs or not but no one else can - for that we meet part way and pay him more but in return we get to extend out another year or 2 at the new rate.
Smartest comment on here for a while. Keeping young players at a bad club is always upgrading and extending early.

It's still pretty bizarre.

"I want out"
"ok we will lock you down for another year or two, sign here".

But seeing through this. Issac Moses I reckon doesn't rate Galvin. Seriously if Moses thought Galvin was the next Nathan Cleary or something he would never let his player get locked down.

He would keep him open to accept the crazy 1.2 or 1.5m deal the NRL would have to offer. Instead we see Moses wanting to lock up Galvin and pushing Galvin to do a long term commitment deal here.

Not saying Galvin is or isn't a good player. I am saying Moses is getting is player trapped here so he can make the most money out of him.

Nuh his extension will not come cheap, probably near the 500-600k for next season and increasing based on performance objectives.

You can safely assume he will be on 800k+ if he plays SOO or for his country.

I don't like the idea of needling up an 18yo week on week, especially when there is nothing much on the line, so am much happier now that they are finally resting his hand.

Funny how so many are talking about our glut of halves, yet it seems we will only have any of them available this weekend because Sezer has completed his suspension.

Always need 4 halves that can play NRL. For us, the guy that was meant to be developing in reggies on small money ended up being the first choice half.

“The Wests Tigers have promised to extend the contract of boom teenager Lachlan Galvin beyond 2026 if he decides to drop a request for an immediate release from the NRL strugglers.“

That has to be the most bizarre sentence I have ever read. He doesn’t wanna be here, he wants a release, so the club‘s response is “if you promise to stop asking for a release, we will sign you for longer”.

Lol what?
Yep, it's like your girlfriend saying, we need to talk, I can't do this anymore.

How about we get married? 🤦🏻‍♂️

IMO the club needs to stand firm. Do not negotiate until such time that he proves to be a true first grader. Needs to be consistent. Light weight, no speed and average tackler. Can read game and has a good passing game.
He is under contract for another 2 years. We cant just rolll over every time a player makes a noise. Look at our past performamce when we've let people out early. Absolute disaster. Now most are performing at the new clubs.

I expect the 500k mark.
But a half can get around the 1m if they are in demand. Moses getting Galvin locked up like this is him not believing that anyone else will be paying big coin for Galvin.

Because lets face it.
If Moses thought another club would be paying 800k for Galvin in a year or two. He wouldn't sign.
If Moses thought that Galvin was going to be the next NRL best thing, he would be getting him off to Souths, Melbourne, Easts or somewhere that will coach him properly.

No, Moses is keeping Galvin here because here Galvin can take our cap as the "next best thing".

Reports are Penrith and Roosters are monitoring things if true they're the ones behind it all through his manager

It seems to me that no player is "trapped" at a club ! They all seem to come and go as they please= contract or no contract
Contracts at NRL clubs are not worth the paper they are written on are they !

$750k over 3 years is a pretty good deal for an 18yo, ( may have been closer to 17 att) with the opportunity to get a run in the top grade.

Not sure anyone else is “behind it all” other than the player himself ..not everything is a conspiracy..

The Tele report mentions Roosters and Panthers would have intereat if he is released , but also says

Galvin has told friends he isn’t unhappy at Concord but feels his development could accelerate at another club …

It’s up to Benji and Richo to convince him otherwise ..

I can’t see how he will agree to a new contract with a couple more years tacked on, even for plenty of cash.

A team like the Chooks would find away to match or better the money if he jagged a release and at worse case scenario he has to stay for another two years than pick who he wants to play with.

After all the publicity his management has put out there about wanting a release, he would look silly extending for more cash.

What ever the outcome of the meeting, the club has to stand their ground and not release him. If nothing else it will give them two years to change his mind

They offered Teddy more money than the Roosters … but he still left …

You need to get him to buy in to what they are trying to build here … and I think the only way to get him to do that is to win more games … and that ain’t happening until next year .. and maybe not even then
