Garner

Gawd

Great game from Luke...

Still needs to work on his defence but is going great guns

Garner and Brooks.... Massive like.

2020 is when he will cement his status here, another off season and some size.

Garner, Clark, Teal, Like me, Aloai, and the new king Matterson.

Looking good I the Fwdz.

runs CL like lines but has less buttery hands from brooks suicide balls

I don't quite agree.

Rowdy runs on rails as hard as he can, once he's picked his line. He's a great hole runner, but if the hole closes, then he relies on the pass being given adequately before the defensive line so that he can brace for the tackle. He tries to bust tackles with his shoulders. He will happily take on the backrow cover defence. He does drop a number of those passes and I think you agree that also Brooks doesn't necessarily throw great passes to him; they need to be softer.

Garner on the other hand checks his run basically every play, so he chooses his line rather late and doesn't wind his speed up until he's about to catch the football. I went back and looked at a number of Garner runs from some matches and he always tries to put himself 1-1 with the half, just to the outside of their shoulders and not actually sprinting through a hole. He backs himself to bump off the half and continue his run. Also by checking his run, he is making sure that he's giving enough time to take the Brooks pass before he reaches the defence.

I'm not criticising Garner though and I think he has a better running style to compliment how Brooks like to pass. Brooks doesn't seem to like to pull out of a play, so he tends to pass to his backrowers regardless of whether a hole closes or not.

Specifically against the Knights, their edge backrowers were hopeless in supporting Lino. Your 5/8th should not find himself 1-1 so often with the opponent's key attack backrower. For the Garner try, everyone saw that Mata'utia over-read the play and let Garner be 1-1 on Lino's outside.

That all being said, I think Garner only beat Lino's tackle twice the whole match. But he was always poking through and getting a quick PTB, so lots of the blame rests on the edge backrower who is supposed to support his half. Knights did not do the 1%-ers all night.

If he played last week we beat the dogs. NRL really stuffed us again there.

Wrong game, but his ten minutes in the sheds was crucial in that match.

@jirskyr I agree with that assessment. Brooks and Garner are forming a great combo in attack. Thompson needs to be sniffing around Garner. So often when he almost through he is looking to get the offload away

Consider yourself lucky you dont live in the UK as everything will be about him and the knighthoods the rest of the plodders will get
