Gibbs a Blue in '11

Was thinking today while on a bludge at work, I reckon if Gibbs can continue the development & improvement he's shown over the last couple of seasons, he could seriously consider himself a candidate for a bench spot for the Blues.
The maturity he's finally showing as a bloke & a prop, the rubbish is gradually being eliminated from his game….his defense and commitment at times he reminds me of Luke Bailey...some more work on his game with the ball wouldnt go astray. Talk of us being interested in Graham also I reckon would spur him on even further....I think next year could be good for Bryce

There's some merit to this I reckon Ink. The thing with Bryce is that he has never been a big metre eating prop, but finding a better one on one defender in the ruck is a hard task when you look at the other NSW front rowers and I certainly think the Blues could tighten their defence around the ruck. I also reckon Gibbs is made for Origin to an extent with the way he plays.

I Agree he improved so much this season, I bagged him at the start of the season as I was sick of his silly plays that were costing us games. But he has maybe turned the corner with his discipline and IMO it's because he has finally grown up! Let's hope he keeps it up for 2011.

Nice thread. As WIllow said, Gibbs needs to work on gaining some metres as a prop as his one on one defence is better than any propl in NSW atm. He is also a rarity as an 80 minute prop and the aspect of him coming off the bench can be intimidating given that he tackles hard and strong. Although, at origin level, I would expect people like Mannah and TLL given the first shot off the bench as they give more "impact".

I think he was our best all-round Frontrower in 2010, but NSW have always picked meter eater Props since the very start…

To compare him to Bailey is a nice comparison, except Bailey could go forward when needed. Hopefully Bryce chooses to work on this part of his game in 2011 and anything can happen now the Blues have a new coach?!

I'd really love to see him get some rewards and recognition... An unsung Hero!!!

Yeah, it was his commitment in defense, sometimes chasing 40 50 or more metres that reminds me of Bull

We need to have props opposition Defences fear…

No one really does that t the tigers except TNT who is our winger

I have always seen the value in Gibbsy ever since O'Meally and Mason gave him a hard time and he stuck with it. I reckon the bloke has plenty of ticka and it was great to see his form in the later part of this season especially considering he was carrying an injury. I know he has given away silly penalties in the past and I've copped a bit for supporting him from blokes at work but like most props he has taken time to mature and will get better.

NSW has to change its mind set and get away from the idea that you have to belt bash and barge to beat qld. They need to take a leaf out of the Tigers book and play a skill based style and thats where Gibbs come into play. He is fast and mobile with plenty of minutes in the tank, so you can play a expansive game and he will not get found out and with such a big fuel tank it takes pressure off your inter change. He would be a must if I were picking a blues side

They won't pick him. Would be very much deserved if he was picked though.

With Sticky in charge we know what game plan will be used, the old bash and barge. So that will rule Gibbs out of contention. Anyway with Farah and Lawrence a real chance of selection and maybe lote for qld we could be in trouble around SOO time

 nailed it Fergie…Dont forget tub of goo 12.5 mins of impact Weyman..

Agree 100% with Innk..Gibbs just pick him...

Definately see an ALL Wests front row for City minimum..

I think both he and Galloway are just getting to the age when they are hitting their peak as Props and I think they suffered in comparison somewhat from being starting props from such a young age. Shillington had his really big year last year and Gibbs is a year younger then him. Gibbs has established himself this year as the best defensive prop in the game he just needs a few more meters but really that would only be another 10m run a game and he is in top form

If he starts front row for the Tigers, I'm picking him in my fantasy considering he makes so many tackles.
