No, I think he would truly love to be a Tiger for life!

I expect that it is likely to be true

I don't doubt that he would want to be at Concord for life either, but he still could be taking the mickey…

Wests Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs has today extended his contract with the Club until the end of the 2014 season.

Off contract at the end of the 2012 season, the new deal means the 26-year-old will be with the Club for a further two seasons.

Gibbs made his debut for Wests Tigers back in August 2003 against the Panthers and has played a total of 135 NRL games.

Gibbs is a product of the successful Wests Tigers Cubs program which was set up to create a pathway for talented youths into the senior squads. This has also included the likes of captain Robbie Farah, Liam Fulton and Chris Lawrence.

In 2002, Gibbs was a member of the premiership winning Wests Magpies SG Ball side coached by current assistant Wests Tigers coach, Peter Gentle. Fellow team mate, Liam Fulton was also part of this squad.

Gibbs was also a part of the successful Wests Tigers Premiership winning side in 2005.

“I wanted to stay with Wests Tigers and this new contract means I can be a Tiger for life,’’ Gibbs said.

“It’s a great Club to be a part of and I just hope I can contribute to the team’s success in the future.”

Wests Tigers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Humphreys said that the new contract for Gibbs was well deserved.

“Bryce has played his part in helping this developing team become more and more successful,’’ Humphreys said.

“Its extremely satisfying for the Club to see a product of our development system become an integral member of our NRL squad. I’m sure he has some exciting years to come.”

I think/hope/suspect (choose appropriate word) that the stability of Sheens as coach has led to a strong "Tiger for life" mentality. I have had my moments of frustration with our coach and his decisions, but I think this is one huge positive the Messiah has brought to our team.

Sensational news. Bryce still hasn't peaked yet, he's going to be in WT colours while in his prime for the next few years. And its not like Bryce had a lack of options, I know other clubs would have liked to lure him away from us. Tigers for life - Benji, Robbie, Bruce.. Lawrence next? 😛ray:

I think this is good news, he came along enormously last year, i reckon we are in for 4 pretty good consistent years from bryce, his discipline improved dramatically last year.
we got a core group of players there for along time to come, very good to see

Great news!
& as tigergirlz says Sheens probably has a lot to do with players wanting to sign on again and again.
He's damnably annoying at times but this is one of his highlights.

Good news, a well deserved reward for Bryce.
10 years next year touch wood, along with Benji, Heighno and Robbie….Liam & Todd the following year

Good new for Gibbs and the Tigers. He really stepped up last year and along with Payten was one of the conrerstones in defence for the team. all the pieces are falling into place very nicely for the next 2-4 years.

Great news indeed, Gibbs is a tuff dude… likely to have a big season 2000&ELEVEN.

Great News…Gibbs in my opinion had his best year in 2010....he appears to be in the Blocker Roach mold....matures late in his 20's...should be a real asset to the club in the years to come....

Great to hear. I don't think any of these guys want to leave the place and that is a real bonus at this stage as most of them enter their prime.

I do this at the risk of ridicule, but with yet another junior signing his life to the Tigers, I am going to go out on a limb and compare Sheens to Jack Gibson in terms of a man manager and not only getting the best out of a player on the field, but also off of it. There's very few coaches who are gifted with the ability to command the respect and loyalty of a whole playing group and especially in extraordinary circumstances such as the NRL, where clubs have to contend with salary caps, limited earning power for players and a saturated representative market (thanks largely to the knobhead NSW selectors for handing out jerseys like lollies.)

Sheens has taken on a core group of players from 2003-2005 and built a side around them. He has instilled a sense of loyalty (the cynic could argue indoctrination due to the age of these players,) in this playing group toward each other and the club. It's amazing that we're in an age where players are readily leaving their club to go elsewhere to chase the bucks, that we have had the likes of Farah, Payten, Heighington, Benji, Ellis & now Bryce signing on (or close enough to,) for life. Hopefully Fulton, Lui, Ayshford, Moltzen and Lawrence will follow suit.

A large congratulations has to go to Sheens and a lesser extent Warren McDonnell for the retention of these players.
