Gibbs extends for 2 more years

Very happy with this signing, Gibbs IMO is the sort of player a pack needs, he has plenty of commitment to the team, plenty of guts, is a strong worker and doesn't take a backward step- good on you Bryce for your loyalty to the club, thanks! I also agree with Cultured Bogan in relation to his comments about Sheens. Sheens has been through some great times in the NRL but he has also had his fair share of tough times and yet he remains in the coaching role, he has also shown loyalty and commitment to the club, he has earned the Australian coaching role and I hope is repaid with another premiership in 2011\. Go the mighty Wests Tigers!!

I do this at the risk of ridicule, but with yet another junior signing his life to the Tigers, I am going to go out on a limb and compare Sheens to Jack Gibson in terms of a man manager and not only getting the best out of a player on the field, but also off of it. There's very few coaches who are gifted with the ability to command the respect and loyalty of a whole playing group and especially in extraordinary circumstances such as the NRL, where clubs have to contend with salary caps, limited earning power for players and a saturated representative market (thanks largely to the knobhead NSW selectors for handing out jerseys like lollies.)

Sheens has taken on a core group of players from 2003-2005 and built a side around them. He has instilled a sense of loyalty (the cynic could argue indoctrination due to the age of these players,) in this playing group toward each other and the club. It's amazing that we're in an age where players are readily leaving their club to go elsewhere to chase the bucks, that we have had the likes of Farah, Payten, Heighington, Benji, Ellis & now Bryce signing on (or close enough to,) for life. Hopefully Fulton, Lui, Ayshford, Moltzen and Lawrence will follow suit.

A large congratulations has to go to Sheens and a lesser extent Warren McDonnell for the retention of these players.

Well said, CB, and I couldn't agree more. For al the armchair critics who have no idea what Tim is actually like, this should at least make them think about how the players think of him. Goo don you Bryce, and good on you Tim!

Great move, I rate him our no1 frontrower. Big Reds good but Bryce has a big engine,is durable and probably our best defensive player.also the good thing his best few years are in front of him. Well done

I was thinking/hoping a Bennett style commitment moreso than Gibson. The next few years will tell. But hoping we get 3-4 more years of Sheens if the predictions for 2011 come true.

For me No1 is Payto - Gibbs has really developed and his head is in the right place. I cant wait to see how he goes this season.

Now to Big Gall - I know he is still young as far as Props go, but really If I was that big, I would be killing people.

Same goes for Tom Leroyd Larrs.

Imagine a prop of that size that ran like Scott, Fui or even Mannah.

Agree best years for Gibbs and the Tigers are coming up…

I agree too. A similar thought crossed my mind and I hope we are witnessing the consolidation of a succcessful team that features in finals football year after year. We have watched other teams achieve this hopefully it is now our turn!

I think the good thing is these contract negotiations have not been played out in the media, with player managers playing the club off against every league and rugby outfit in the universe. Obviously he got offered a good deal so he signed without all the usual rubbish that goes on with most elite players these days. Loyalty is a great thing and it works both ways
