Tigers v Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium, 6.25pm (AEST)

Should Tigers persist with Oliver Gildart? The English international has struggled to adapt to the physicality of the NRL in his debut season Down Under. Gildart is at the top of the league for two unwanted categories – most try causes (13) and line breaks conceded at 14 alongside another centre, Morgan Harper, who has lost his place for the foreseeable future at Manly due to his defensive deficiencies.

Well this says what all of us have seen. How can Madge continue.to pick him? Yes we have so many injuries but fair dinkum you could put a cardboard cut out and it would put up the same numbers.
💔

I like Oli.
He's probably better than Pauga.

He's not first grade standard though.
As we've all observed.

Yes he is mate but 7 NRL games, the toughest comp in the world, others that become good players get to have about 50 games under their belt....at least he tries and if he leaves he will be better for Madges coaching and the experience...

most try causes (13) and line breaks conceded at 14

Unfortunately we can't keep him on with stats like that

How do they qualify statistics for ‘most try causes’
Are they saying his actions definitively lead to 13 tries being scored? What are these actions? Wouldn’t they be picked up in other categories? That’s a weird stat.
apart from miss tackles that lead directly to points they add in mis-reads in defence (taking the wrong guy), rushing out of the defensive line and taking thin air to TRY causes..it's subjective..

It's a bit like miss tackles.. there are one's where the defender drops of but the attacker is still tackled by other defenders...with no net gain and one's where the miss tackle leads to a line break which is more concerning.. often a misleading stat..

Would love him to ‘cause’ some tries for us instead.

Nobody ‘gets 50 games’ in first grade defending like that.
Brooks did and his defense was crap until Madge came along...now he is one of the best....Give the bloke a chance,we have pissed bigger money up against the wall on players that were in the NRL a lot longer than Gildart...he is all we got atm with the injuries and poor depth we have...

Got nothing against the bloke. He might try but for some reason he tackles with his arms.and not his shoulder. I mean footballers learn to tackle with their shoulder in their early teens.

This is a professional Sport. If you have a deficiency you will be found out straight away.

Shit, even in amateur sports if you’re not performing to the level expected you get dropped down a grade until you improve.

Brooks was tackling just as well under Ivan, Gildart is good in attack let's hope can work out his defence hopefully in state cup

Utter nonsense - Brooks has always been a quality defensive 7!!

WT confirm Oliver Gildart has joined the Roosters on loan for the remainder of 2022 and will return for preseason 2023. Given Dolphins and Super League links so far, would be surprised if that is the case.

Hope, like Noffa, he returns to us a better player. Seems a win-win for both clubs and the young man gets a chance to play finals football with a good team

Putting the benefits we get for loaning them out aside...Do Roosters also have an injury problem? Last time I checked their backline was looking fine...

Defeats the purpose of challenging for a premiership with your nominated top 30 squad and ruins the fairness of the finals when some teams can come in and improve their squads with players who aren't signed to them.

i thought the loan system was brought in as a temporary measure to cover the finals if cov id struck,

Agreed 100%

The fact you have a roster of 30 players that is what you should have to choose from and that is where you balance your roster and Cap. We have lost players and look at us now, even allowing for the improvement we are getting low on troops to choose from. The NRL was also suppose to support development and clearly if you can just stack your side and replace later with some talented players out of finals contention then you will never change the teams at the top.

That is also defeating the tribalism of the sport as Wests would not have wanted to help Manly or Balmain help Souths so why would Wests Tigers want to help others at this late part of the season.

If anything a trade should happen no later than halfway through a season not now.

Yup, I hate this loan crap.

Makes no sense to me that a team can go out and get an advantage just like that.

Though, not really sure how OG fits in over there...

Remember Momorovski in the semi for them when they were decimated with injuries and scored the match winner. Gildart has not been up to it defensively however can attack ok and if you have decent second rowers standing next to you to cover this helps.

Agree the loan is garbage
