Been reading alot of threads already calling for millers head…for mine he has been playing pretty good... very hard for a young kid to light it up in the nrl after just 4 games and in a team where marshall is known as the star and been the main playmaker for some time..the kid can play and in time i hope he demands more ball and benji can concentrate on taking the line on himself and playing more like a 6...dont want to see another prospect shafted to another team where he then performs because he is given a fair chance......

ppl here were begging for him to get a run and because he hasnt been a JT/DCE within 4 games he's apparently no good and all of a sudden an unproven guy in reggies is our saviour.

miller looks dangerous with the ball and as his confidence grows we will start to see what all the fuss has been about for the past few years.

the talk seems to be in the forum only, nothing from potter or the team suggests he's on the outter or doing no good. he has been solid and consistent in the games this year and his best is still ahead of him.

Ok, let's say the doomsayers, who think Jacob Miller should go, are correct. What then?
Remember the continual complaints about Robert Lui, when he first made the NRL team. He could not tackle, would not overcall Benji, did not take on the line enough. After he went, the call was for a HALF.
Many on this forum are making similar complaints about Miller.
I agree with "mtd" that we should give him a little more time, as he seems to be coming on well to me.

Give him a year. The good players that have a future are easy to spot after 1 season ie: Adam Reynolds and Sezer. Don't get caught waiting too long though…they either have it or they don't. We need a halfback more desperately than any other club, 7 years is too long

Agreed, we had to wait a while before Lui got his act together, Miller will be the same.

Yep,needs some guidance & confidence building from his teamates & coaching staff,he'll get being told how useless he is from the media, social media & everytime he goes out for a beer so its up to the club to harden his hide & instill confidence to give him every chance to perform at NRL level. One thing i've noticed is he sidesteps/changes direction way too early when he's attacking the line, really telegraphs where he's going to the defence.

I'm not sold on him. Time will tell.

I also think we have options in the halves - Sirro and Brooks and if Miller looks poor by say 1/2 way through the season and Sirro is looking good I would go with Sirro.

I agree, but we can't wait all season,if by round 8-10 we are still having this discussion then it is probably time for someone else to step in.

….and then you start all over again.....and if were are still having this discussion by round 16-20....its probably time for someone else to step in????
Like who I wonder/

Seeing the club would of known whats its plans for Miller were fairly early ,why have we not tried to get Joey Johns part time in a mentoring role like other clubs have for other young up and coming half backs

he is playing, he is not getting a go?

IMO and I have been saying for the last 2 years, I think he is ok and will punch out an NRL career as a journeyman, but he is not a star and not a particuarly good foil for benji and RObbie, as his strength is he comes up with a few big attacking plays, he is not really a controlling organiser. I reckon he would team nicely with SOward and think there is a very good chance he will go to saints next year.
I actually think he would be better suited to 6, not that there is that big a difference these days

His had a go his played 10 NRL games and has shown nothing. He had an opportunity to step up last week when we had a truck load of possession but he was nowhere to be seen.

Thanks Goose your always pretty much spot on with your assessment of the younger players.
What do you do for a living we could do with a good recruitment officer.

If anyone can make an accurate call on Miller at this point in time I take my hat off to you, I really do. He has now played only 4 games under a coach whos is prepared to give him a go, I don't think any of his previous appearances can be taken as legit. Now he has to deal with R&B who still call the shots and want to run the game as they see it, especially when the team is under the pump.

So not only is Miller a rookie, he has to learn how to deal with R&B - and I do not think they are making this particularly easy for him.

It seems that because Brooks is in the wings a lot of people here are getting anxious and impatient. I wonder would Miller be getting different treatment if we didn't have Brooks coming through?

But he is. So if Brooks is as good as some on here reckon, I'll gladly have in the #7\. Until then however, the OP is 100% correct - give Miller a decent go.

The future of him at the club will probably be sorted well before the end of the year anyway as his contract is due then and he won't go into the off-season without one.

The problem I see with Miller is that he doesn't have the speed or strength to make a clean break. The defences know this and it doesn't create much doubt in their minds. When Miller has the ball 15 metres out from the opposition line, you want the defence to make a decision (will he go or will he pass?). Unfortunately, more often than not he passes (which tend to be predictable) and does not have the explosive speed to really worry the defence. Even Lui was either deceptively quick or strong as he could make a clean bust he also had more tricks in his passing game but Miller is clearly the better defender

Benji is the clear "go to". Defences know this and prepare for a raid down his side. I think this in impacting our much vaunted and feared attack

Sorry I am not a Miller fan, but only Miller can turn me into one. When it happens I will eat my words and I will even apologise now for doubting the kid. But from what I see he has some major issues with his game and I am not sure any NRL first grade side could spend the time to work them out whilst he plays first grade. He needs at least a year in state cup maybe two. Do we have a better option yes we have had one for 3 years now but we keep expecting him to play fullback a position he struggles with. This year is extremely frustrating when we have a real fullback playing state cup or out of position in first grade. When will we ever learn.
But as always I will follow my beloved team with my heart on my sleeve.

My POV isn't quite whether Miller will make it or not, but rather what do we do with the potential wunderkind in NYC, Brooks.

Right now we don't have better half options, so Miller is it. But what about in 6 months, if Tigers are mired outside the 8 and Brooks is stepping up in 20s?

Is Miller really the long-term solution, or is he a stop gap until Brooks is mature enough for promotion?
