Goal Kicker for 2010?

I see this being an area of great concern for next season.

Benjie is too hit and miss and his success rate confirms this. Had we had a recognised goal kicker this year, some of those close games, the games we lost by 2-4 points, we may possibly have been in the top 4! :astonished:

So, begs the question- How are we going to improve goal kicking for next year and who is the best person for the job???

Jake Mullaney maybe for a wing spot anybody?

God no.

The kid id a ball player and IMO not a winger in stature, muscle mass or defensive ability yet.

Why stuff the kids development by playing him out of position?

Yeah, I agree- no need to rush him in at this stage of his career. Just wish we had more goal-kicking options!

I think we will be sticking with Benji. When he misses it usually isn't by much. Tim Moltzen can kick though can't he? He could be another option. But I can see Benji keeping the job next year.

does anyone know Lote's goal kicking success rate?

Think he was back-up goal kicker for the 'Tahs, but don't know his success rate. Peter Hewat & Kurtly Beale did most of the kicking anyway.

what's Benji's stats on his goal kicking anyone know?

only reason benjis goalkicking % was low was that most our trys were on the wings. Go back and watch some games, i reckon 60% of his kicks this year wouldhave been from the sidelines. Id keep benji, he strikes em well.

All that is required is some more Coaching / Practise

I recall Hodgo commenting abount some sessions with Graham Arnold (Former Socceroo) really benefiting his kicking even after doing it for so long.

Practise, Practise Analyse then Practise some more….

Previous poster hit the nail on the head, Benji spends most of his kicks rearranging the advertising boards on the side lines. Most of out trys are scored in the corners. Okay he is not in that top notch of kickers but he is getting their. He never seems to miss by much

I remember Lote kickin in that origin game that won them series… So he already has a good track record under pressure

Stick with Benji. I believe the rest of his game developed due to the responsibility of kicking at goals. No other goal-kicker kicked from the sidelines as much as him so no-one is going to kick that higher percentage from out there. I think some more practice will do him fine. Deffinately need a back-up though as we didn't have one this past season. Gallant was poor against the Dogs, Lawrence hasn't done any in FG, Moltzen I don't think kicks goals, Farah has an iffy back and I wouldn't know about anyone else. Hopefully Benji ad co are working hard.

Seems like we have no choice but to stick with him…..excuses are a cop out, we only have one kicker and he's poor at it.
Does Taumata kick?

We do need a different goal kicker but I can't see a suitable replacement.
Benji has a good natural strike of the ball but he already has enough on his mind,
without adding the pressure of kicking the goals.

Benji for the first 5 rounds or so while Blake Lazarus gets some games under his belt in state cup, and if he can find a spot in the top 13 , with the training and lessons he has been having with Hazem , he will be our 84% Man….kicking is not going to be the hard thing for him , it is finding a spot in this very hard working team,

TBH we should use two kickers imo

Get Farah and Benji both to really practice their kicking game (get in an ex socceroo or soccer coach) I've often wonder why sides don't alternate kickers depending on sides of the field..

Yeah okay Benji had heaps of kicks from the sideline, most of the time he landed them, but it was the ones halfway between the posts and the sidelines he missed most of the time. Just as AT mentioned the goalkicking responsibility helped him this year, maybe it'll have the same impact if Moltzen gets the gig next year.

Definitely not give it to Farah. Those 3-4 weeks in 07 were absolute shockers!

lote, flanagan and lawrence can all kick.
i say see how benji goes kicking in the off season and if poor let one of them step up, lawrence has a great boot from memory of his oz schoolboy games and early tiger games.

contact Hazem El-Magic or Darrel Halligan and get either of them in to mentor at least two goalkickers for the entire off season.
we need to have a consistent performing back-up kicker if main goal kicker is injured.
