so if the caes is that we only have benji as a kicker.who before this season was kicking at what percentage.so
we go into the new season with a kicker, who we know isnt reliable.so instead of having at least 1 or 2 back up
kickers in the team we persist with marshall.whos to blame for this, coach.as a few have said hes not a natural
goal kicker.comming into the finals we need every point we can get, unless his kicking improves very quickly
it might come back to haunt us late in a big game.

Problem is, Marshall laps it up with making things difficult - it's how his brain is wired.

The Tigers always play catch up because of Benji óff the cuff' style (esp in the first half of footy) and in particular where he puts the ball down for the try when someone is chasing - he wants to make himself look good and convert from a more difficult angle if he pulls it off - but unfortunately for him, he misses most of the time.
Sheens should just suck it in and strip him of these duties because it is killing us. If there was an established kicker, they'd be filthy that he deliberately puts the ball down away from the posts because he wants to be 'different'. It's time he and supercoach are helf accountable.

Sheens indicated that Meany may be selected due to his GK if MCkinnon is out next week…but...he said Meany is injured...

What was the go with Dean Collis never kicking. He was excellent, kicked 7/8 or something against the Storm up at Gosford one game.

If he never kicked how did he kick 7/8 then? 😕

hahaha, classic Sheens, ill finally pick Meaney but…......um.....he's injured

 Meaney is the only guy to play for Wests Tigers not to have a profile added to the site.

They must really think highly of him

One of the players has to man up and say to the coach he can kick and then prove it by kicking some ..(lol not from right infront but).. Its like playing cricket with a new team , the captain doesnt know how well you can bowl or you can bowl unless you demonstrate in the nets 1st.The coach cant take a punt who can kick unless someone fronts him.
IMO Benji is still the better kicker , he has been kicking the whole season. Its the confidence that is an issue.

Surely he (Benji) has a friend in another club who can kick and can give me some pointers .. Clearly the Kicking coach is not working for Benji !

If Benji sacks himself then I'd be inclined to give Lote the job. He was a goal kicker whilst at Brisbane and was also the QLD Origin goal kicker as well for a while there, kicking up in the high 80's percent range. Sheens should explore this option. And as for Jason Taylor, the bloke was a grub for leaving Western Suburbs and should have never been allowed back into the fold, even if it's to assist Marshall with his goal kicking. Gee, he's doing such a great job. Get El Masri down to Concord immediately.

Are you his psychologist?

I maybe not a psychologist but I play alot of touch and RL and without sounding like a shrewd, my style is very similar to Benji's - often get criticized for being rocks and diamonds - but that's the way we play.

Just one example of many, look at the last try he scored against the cowboys when he ran 60m, when he approached the line, he diverted away from the posts at the death because there was a chaser (which wouldn't have gotten him anyway) he would have at least given away 2 metres. If he really wanted to make it easier for himself (and i'm sure 99.99% of players would (esp. himself being the kicker) he'd improve the position given the chance - that chaser was never going to get him or influence his position - but Benji makes it hard for himself.

On this note, did anyone notice that when Lawrence took over the kicking duties on the weekend that Benji's style in general play changed? the ensuing set of 6 saw his step come back and he took the line on - he was stripped of the ball and was very charged up about it, mouthing off at the ref- seemed to me a massive weight was off his shoulders and he was focusing on his own game again

I see what you're getting at, I just think you're reading into it a little too much.

I will agree with you that once he passed up the goal kicking duties he had more fire about him. If giving up the goal kicking means he will score/set up at least three or four tries a game I'm all for it. Just need someone who can pot every 4 out of 5 goals and we're set.

Yeah, I think we should see how Lawrence goes next week to give him more of a chance, seeing as he had quite a difficult second kick.

I think we all agree that it was a relief Benji 'gave up' the duties (or was instructed to) - either way, it's no coincidence that all of our recent wins are of the narrowest margins - imagine those missed goals were converted and the confidence we'd be playing with!

I don't where this myth about Lote being a great kicker comes from. He's less than 62% based on the stats I could find.
